A song that spent 3 weeks at #2 and sold over a million copies is not underrated. It's on my list of the 100 greatest recordings of the 70s. It eclipsed the success of "Dream Weaver" as well.

In the Tidewater VA area it was Dream Weaver that was played most on the radio. We all had to get the album and the whole album was great. The radios only played what the agents and record companies would push.

Actually, the Hard Rock singing style of "Love Is Alive" is actually more of what Gary Wright was used to doing, because - believe it or not - Gary got his start as co-keyboardist and co-lead singer of the _British_ Hard Rock band Spooky Tooth in 1968 (keep in mind Gary Wright was an American guy from New Jersey, so this was highly unusual at the time), and was in the band until 1973. Definitely check-out their 1969 sophomore album *Spooky Two,* especially the excellent album opener "Waitin' For The Wind" and "Better By You, Better Than Me" (both famously and infamously covered 9 years later by Judas Priest on their amazing *Stained Class* album in 1978). While we're on the subject of love being alive, also check-out "Love Alive" by Heart. You both will absolutely LOVE that song!!
