Liked how the news presenter had the decency to know when to stop interviewing Savage when he saw Savage was deeply upset. Great initiative that you don't see all the time from news people. Sometimes they don't know when to stop and this guy did.

Yeah. Time flies surely. Was in a shop on the morning I heard this very sad news. Dan Walker was on TV on the 10th anniversary of Gary's death, saying about how Gary was in great form on Football Focus on 26/11/2011 and how understandably shocked he was about the news of Gary's death. The thing is with Mental Health, if people are set on killing themselves, they are going to do it. Sad but true. It happened two men years ago where I live, you'd have thought that they would have been the last people in the world to attempt suicide but sadly you don't know what's going on in another person's mind.

This is the most moving interview. You can see the news of Gary's death really sinking in with Robbie during the interview. Poor guy. The interviewer handled it well and so did Robbie, but you could tell Robbie was fighting back the tears and couldn't even speak by the end of the interview. That in itself revealed the shock and utter sadness of the situation. RIP Gary Speed. You had so many people who loved you.

As a person that has , and still does suffer from depression, Garys death is classic of how depression is the hidden killer . If you ever thought Robbie Savage was only about two footed tackles, watch this and think again. There is such humanity in how destroyed he obviously is by this news. It's just so, so sad. Seeing someone so patently torn to pieces by the death of his friend is not something I think should be broadcast on a news programme, but at the same time it's genuinely very moving to see. RIP Gary. RIP.

Feels like it was only yesterday, since Gary left us. RIP, great man and an inspiration to all. People seem so stunned that someone who seemed happy and had everything could take his own life but I can relate I can always manage a smile no matter down or depressed I am, in fact when I was in school I regrettably tried to take my own life because I was bullied and everybody knew me as a happy person with a smile always on my face, everyone found out about it and some even said you seem so happy why would you want to take your life? To be honest depression is very dark and the way you feel while you're depressed is beyond words and comprehension and very hard to explain, one minute you can be on top of the world but it always comes back and you just want to get away from it all by any means. I often ran away from home too. If you ever feel trapped and want to get away or feel like running away from your problems that is the first sign of depression, get help, it may save your life and if you know anyone who feels that way advise them to get help and tell them how serious depression can get. Depression is an illness not just a state of mind.

Good to see respectful comments regarding a touchy subject. Whatever the reason, Gary was sick and its such a huge shame he didn't tell anyone (that we know of). Its a timely reminder to us all that we need to look after ourselves, and our loved ones. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and if you have any kind of mental illness, talk to someone who cares. And if you know someone who has it, be gentle with them, and LISTEN to them if they open up. Gary Speed, such a legend RIP.

It's something that everybody says. "We had no idea. He/she gave no sign that he/she was going to do this". When somebody decides they are going to take that final step, it's as though a weight is lifted from them. All of the hurt and pain they feel drifts away from them for the final few days as they plan to commit suicide. That's why the person always seems so positive before it happens, and why it causes so much shock for others when it does.

Glasgow Rangers fan here. Gary Speed will Forever be in EVERY Football fans heart. ❤ HE EARNED THAT! R.I.P Gary Speed. Truly one of a kind. A Legend. A Gentleman. A true Profesional at his work, on and off the field. A Role Model in every sense. Yes, a Legend at MANY Football Clubs and especially the Welsh International squad, both as Player and Manager, but I will ALWAYS remember him fondly for his outstanding performances for Leeds against Rangers in the "Battle of Britain" in the 1992/93 Season. The first Leg at Ibrox was a good game but scrappy. Gary McAllisters volleyed Goal for Leeds in the opening minutes of the game was unbelievable. The Rangers fans were still trying to find and sit on their allocated seats because the Goal was scored so fast after kick-off. Leeds had a Star-Studded team back in the day, especially that Season. The Second Leg at Elland Road is regarded Worldwide as one of the Best UEFA Champions League game EVER. Cosidered as Two of the very best ever Goals scored in the history of the UEFA Champions League competition, and BOTH Goals were scored in the same game. Mark Hateleys Wonergoal with a Striked Lobbed Volley, after a superb lobbed chip assist by Ally McCoist. Then moments later Mark Hatley perfectly delivered a crossed ball assist to Ally McCoist who scored a World-Class Diving Header. Hateleys Goal is consiered as the best goal scored, but personally my all time favorite Goal is Ally McCoists Diving Header. Ally was born a Rangers fan and the goal meant so much to him, he famously burst out crying with tears straight after scoring, which almost got him subbed off if he didn't control his emotions vry quickly. Then Eric Cantona scored a beautiful Goal as a late conselation. Over both Legs, Gary Speed and Eric Cantona TERRORISED Rangers with their unmatched and untouchable skills. If it wasn't for the Late and Great Goalkeeper "The Goalie" Andy Goram (R.I.P to him as well) making about 100+ World-Class saves during both Legs, Gary Speed and Cantona would have won both games single-handedly for Leeds if it wasn't for Andy Gorams efforts in front of goal. For me, Andy Goram was the TRUE Man of the Match and Hero in both of the two games played. That's just my personal opinion. Here is a link to Gary Speeds wiki, it's very intresting = en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Speed#Leeds_United GOD Bless you and Rest in Peace, Gary Andrew Speed M.B.E 💙

All depends on your perspective, and that outlook on life can change throughout a person's life. As an example, an addict (of any kind) may generally hate their situation, but their craving for the next hit keeps them going. In fact they may have to work harder than someone who has it all to get whatever it is they crave, and that effort and eventual reward actually gives them more of a release of reward-based brain chemistry than someone who has instant access to everything. Of course this might not be applicable to Mr Speed, I suspect the sexual abuse he suffered as a youngster was the root cause. You'd never really see the world in the same way after such an experience.

I was 10yo when this happened. I distinctly remember watching Football Focus that Saturday lunchtime and remember the reports the day after- it was hoenstlybone of the first times i had ever truly thought about death; how someone can be there one minute and gone the next.

Amazing and im proud as someone who nearly took my own life at 20 , how far mental illness awareness has become mainstream across all generations and workplaces and I thought it was good enough in 2010 . Sometimes like Garry speed having everything you think they don't feel it if anything they feel a burden to their loved ones and society . As upset as Robbie is here I'm sure he is better informed now at the background he was dealing with and might not think or say he had everything as if it's a waste by him etc

im a forest fan and all i can say is, fair play robbie i know how hard it is to lose a close freind and you were brave to accept an interview on such a hard subject in such short time! Garry Speed was a true sportsman and we'll never know why he did what he did but all we can do is remember him for the great guy he was RIP Garry Speed
