"How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" is a song originally recorded by Laura Branigan in 1983. The song, written by Michael Bolton and Doug James, was recorded by Bolton later the same decade. The song was first performed in 1985, by actress Lisa Hartman as a music video on the nighttime soap opera, Knots Landing. As the second single from Branigan's second solo album Branigan 2 spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and peaked at number twelve on the Hot 100 in early-October 1983. Branigan's single also hit the number-one spot on the Adult Contemporary chart in Canada. This success came without benefit of a music video. Branigan performed the song on the syndicated music countdown show Solid Gold in late 1983 and on the popular holiday special Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. Michael Bolton and Doug James co-wrote the song and Branigan's record was their first major hit as songwriters. Bolton, whose own recording career would not take off until 1987, went on to co-write the rock ballad "I Found Someone" for Branigan's Hold Me album in 1985. Another song co-written by Bolton and James, "It's Been Hard Enough Getting Over You", was recorded by Branigan in 1993 for Over My Heart. Though Branigan 2 went out of print in 2004, Branigan's original version appears on the albums The Best of Branigan (1995), The Essentials: Laura Branigan (2002) and The Platinum Collection (2006).

I love how Gary's voice sounds in this song!! It is alot different than Lady Willpower and Young Girl and Over You!!! But, every night, I listen to Gary sing and it is such sweet music, that I can go to sleep very easily!!! I will always love your music, Gary!

Kim Tyler yes a great voice. I grew up on Gary Puckett music. Use to sing his songs to my girlfriend when we would walk around listening to my transistor radio. Now thats old school

I just wanna say the man that made this video did a really good job. All the different pictures takes a lot of work to do that. I don’t know how to do it but you sure did it justice I’ve enjoyed it how talk to you and Mr. Gary Puckett The union gap for all the beautiful memories through the years.

@TheFiredragon52 Laura passed away in 2004. She recorded this in 1983 after Bolton co-wrote it. He then recorded it in 1989. However, I cannot find anything on ANY album by Gary, that he recorded this.

That's Gary, singing a Michael Bolton cover, but it's playing a totally different video with them doing it a different song. This doesn't go over that well. But Gary has done a few different covers of popular ballads and this is one of them, he does a very nice job. The only one I'd rather hear sing this is Michael himself. Good cover Gary!!!!! *S*

@MrMilagroqq Gary's voice definitely change to the point I don't recognize that's his. Yet to his credit , he 's still kicking with a good melody tone. His first album is one of my favorite, when he cover song like, Honey, Kiss me goodbye, Lady Madonna actually better then the original in my humble opinion.

This was on Kenny Gsbig hit album. I can't remember who the singer was, but a beautiful rendition nevertheless. 🎶🎼

Laura Branigan may have recorded it first, but it Was Micheal Bolton's song. He co wrote it with Doug Jones. Branigan took it to #12 in '83. but Bolton himself finally recorded it and released it in '89. going to #1 on the charts. It was originally 'pitched' to the group "Air Supply", but they wanted some things changed in the chorus, and Bolton said no. So they put it on 'indefinite hold', and the rest is history.

@TheFiredragon52 gary's voice started to wane when the union gap disbanded, his vocals were unreal in the late sixties. I still enjoy his music but he did unfortunately lose that powerful voice that belted out young girl

I disagree. His fabulous voice continued for an extremely long time, but as much as I hate to admit it, today in his late seventies his voice is not what it once was. Although, I love him just the same.

I thought the late great Laura Branigan wrote this great song- I know she did! Love this version!
