He doesnt have an accent😊 but the way he articulates and forms his words when he sings sometimes on certain words does sound like an accent. If you listen to the same songs from 1969 and look for his appearances on Ralph Emory's show with Jim Glaser, the singer who wrote Woman Woman. I believe that is Nashville Now 1985-1995? Gary has the same sound. I love that voice and attention to singing...you always know what he is singing. It is never sloppy. He was blessed with an incredible beautiful passionate voice that seems to stand the test of time. Check out KZread and songs he sang that were not "his" He can sing anything...gospel, blues, pop...we are blessed to have that voice in our lifetime. Just my opinion.

@@kln58cub I agree. He's a class act too. He can sing anyone's songs and sounds almost better than many. His Timepieces album is 90s songs. Foreigner, Journey, Michael Bolton, Air Supply...and more. And he sings so well it's hard to know of it's him or the original artist

@@kln58cub You must be taken by his good looks, because he has no voice left here in 2005 and it is even worse in 2022. He cannot sustain a note too long without warbbling out of control. He was indeed one of the best in his prime. Sometimes you just need to know when to hang it up. Perhaps he needs the money??

Gary always had a superb vibrato, but it’s a little exaggerated here, almost Burt Lahr-ish ala “King of the Forest”! His intonation is still very good. The guy can still sing.

@@duanek6051 if you look at a video done by a guy who breaks down the mechanics of singing...you will see he has always had what sounds like an accent at times. Wings of Pegasus is where the guy is from. Think his name is Fil something. He makes understanding the sounds and mechanics of singing much more interesting than what I endured in school. Maybe we didn't get to listen to the right songs in college! Lol He discusses the song Woman Woman from Gary's performance on Nashville Now I believe. He sang some wonderful other songs on that show too. That "accent sound" comes out sometimes when forming tones, vowel sounds in music so the listener can understand what is sung. Did you ever sing in a choir and the director had you sing an a or I a certain way? It is so the correct vowel sound is heard and doesnt assault the ear. It is really interesting and it made total sense why it sounds like a bit of accent. Gary was an example used in school because he wasn't a sloppy singer. He is more than a singer but a vocalist. He has sung very clearly with proper vocal pronunciation from the beginning.. It is HARD for those of us who just sang in the chorus. We had to learn. People of the mid-west also have a distinct accent. I never knew that until I moved to Utah. People from Minnesota have an accent a little different from Indiana as well. Sorry if I bored you. I took voice lessons decades ago just to sing in the choir and i think the human voice is a remarkable instrument.
