Part 30: • Gary Payton on How It ...
Part 1: • Gary Payton on His Dad...
--------
In this clip, Gary Payton discussed his son joining the Golden State Warriors and how the team has proven to be the perfect fit for him and his skillset. Gary also talked about his son carving out his own identity in the league but noted that the nickname "The Mitten" isn't doing much to help in that department.

VLAD - They don't call him the MITTEN, you got your facts wrong young man. They call him "YOUNG GLOVE" We don't call him the MITTEN out here. LoL, they were thinking of names to call him and MITTEN came up, but GPII chose Young Glove because that was one of the names as well. But definitely not "MITTEN"..

Just cuz hes good on the warriors dont mean he was good everywhere else. U cant just be good. U have to click with teammates.. coaching staff..fans.. Culture... The warriors have a great all around experience for players. Plus the coaching staff gives u the chance to play free. Some ppl play better just going out there to hustle n play hard over running sets all the time. But like u said...he found his home

I simply love this interview. GP as a loving father, and GP II as a rising star in his own right. I just love watching GP II on crunch time with the Warriors. And I believe, just like JP, Kerr and the coaching staff of GSW can hone the enormous talent GP II has. If he has the right focus, the athletic discipline, then, as what GP is telling us in this interview, GP II should be pictured side by side with his superstar father, not under his shadow.

I hope he wins a finals and finds a way to stay with Poole and the splash bros. They’re all good for eachother.
