    The interviewer is clearly unhappy about the positive picture painted of Churchill. Oldman puts it into context to the interviewer's chagrin.

    Churchill was an amazing writer and speaker. He loved people. When EVERYONE thought Hitler, was a joke, he warned them about him. When Chamberlain signed in Munich, he was one of the only people who opened criticized the Agreement, even though that wasn't the popular point of view. He warned everyone about Stalin, too. He wrote articles against racism and anti-Semitism back in the 1920s. For comparison, our fucking American President can't condemn Nazis and what they stand for today and Churchill was condemning them back in the 1920s! He pushed and pushed for America to get in the war. You could say he single-handedly saved the world from the Nazis because if he never existed, we may have lost WWII. When the Nazis bombed England, he walked out to the bombed areas and helped to reconstruct to give his people courage. THERE IS NO ONE LIKE HIM. WE DON'T HAVE LEADERS LIKE THIS ANYMORE.

    Void point. If food supply was cut off from the British Isles they would have been forced to surrender. Then the Indians would have been at the complete mercy of imperial Japan, a much worse fate I think we can agree.

    Natalya Chamberlain picked the only sensible option. War against Germany in 1936 or 1938 would have mean defeat. UK would have had no allies, no empire or commonwealth, and most importantly the population of the UK would no have supported a war with Germany in 36/38.

    Natalya The allies in 38/39 desperately needed the Soviet union to join them in the "grand alliance" Churchill personally spoke to the Soviet ambassador to gain their support in a European war.

    Natalya Roosevelt treatment of Jesse Owen was a discracefull. Hitler on the over hand sent Owen a congratulation note and even smiled and waved at him. Lets not pretend that US presidents in history are paragons of virtue.

    Churchill was well hersed in world politics much sooner than the age of 65. he was right beside the people that were pulling the puppets strings long before that.He stepped down/across to that step with the intention of pulling on the strings.And actually making a diffrence. Great! Great! man.

    I just finished watching the movie and I think this is the best performance i´ve ever seen in my life. There are other great ones but this is right up there with the incomparable. His performance, passion, genius and ability to caputure the true churchill are truly unrivaled

    Just watched " Darkest Hour" again yesterday..... Gary portrayed Churchill as a human being weighed down with the absolute insanity of the situation he had been " placed in" & was magnificent with a well deserved Oscar.... which of course should've gone to Churchill for basically saving Europe from Hitler.....MAJOR RESPECT to them both!

    I have yet to see Oldman's performance, but Timothy Spall gave the most fascinating churchill on screen that I have ever seen, in the king's speech, even though he had little screen time

    I loathe Stephen Galloway as the moderator. His tone is always snide and condescending and he THINKS he is the smartest guy at the table every time. True to form, he feels it’s his duty to “inform” Oldman that people in England have mixed feelings about Churchill, assuming that Oldman isn’t intelligent enough to understand that himself. Plus it is rude of him to insult the Churchill character that Oldman has poured months of blood, sweat and tears into researching and acting. I just love Oldman’s comeback, rattling off a laundry list of Churchill’s accomplishments. Look who got schooled.

    I have had the privilege of working with Mr. Oldman, of sharing a meal and more than a few stories with him. He is as engaging a human being as he is an artist. Which makes this comment so difficult to write. History has seen fit to distort the truth surrounding Mr. Churchill for reasons that are hard to discern. Does the truth obstruct their narrative? Is it because the truth would make for a terrible commercial enterprise? No matter. What saddens me is that I am sure Mr. Oldman did his due diligence, as it relates to the research he conducted to portray Mr, Churchill. What saddens me more deeply, though, is that there is so much bad history out there that even a scrupulous person would be so abjectly misdirected from the truth that is so contrary to the life he portrayed, adding an insane momentum to a runaway train that needs no assistance.     Well it is what he did to prepare for war early on and how he rallied the country. He had flaws like we all do, but he was the leader England needed and the world needed to fight a war against tyranny

    Well to British people he is a Legend. He did a lot for his country but to other people he was very mean . Product of his time but he didn't change at all. To call him Incomparable would be an overstatement. Same thing, Gandhi would be incomparable to all the Indians( at least most of them) but to the British administration at that time, I bet there would be nothing but hate towards him.

    Suggest that people read up on despicable attitude and policies Churchill presided over in dealing with Ireland during early part of 20th century and also how he behaved towards M.K. Gandhi. Admire the actors playing the man but not the man himself.

    These people who give Churchill shit for being unable to help india need to grow up, unfortunately running a country during a war is hard and one must prioritise their country over others. Also if you failed to notice we had rations and were struggling with food, stop being so arrogant and entitled.

    Because Churchill was a conservative, the snotty moderator must peeve about. Never mind that he was the outstanding leader of the Second World War, and because of his saving qualities can be placed in the same room with Moses himself; this does not impress the cultural elite. Certainly the mod (what is his name?) is acting like a dunce.

    1943, or 1770? Bengal had a famine, and you word this as if Churchill took the food from the hands of the babies himself. Nothing of the kind happened. I suppose you've no appreciation for what happened in WWII, where the entire world was suffering, and in my estimate nearly 70 million died as a result. OTC, your socialist governments are the more to blame for starvation, and what did Stalin do in the Ukraine in the Thirties? If Stalin had not double-crossed absolutely every ally he had in the war (except Germany!), it is just possible WWII would've been less severe, and the Indians would have fared better. As it was, Churchill presided over the greatest reform of British colonies and holdings in history. You. Lose. I greatly encourage you to adopt more conservative thinking, because I can tell you are smart.

    I'm from the country that threw out the Brits by force of arms. However, although your data is voluminous, I'm still not convinced. The Allies (India was among this cohort) bombed the French and Low Country cities to rubble, as well as those of the surrendered Italian's, didn't they? The war, which you don't seem to have support for, caused enormous shortages everywhere, and Britain was hand to mouth themselves the whole time, weren't they? So, you blame Churchill for governing during wartime? I'm sorry, but that's a bit rich. You go on about colonial times, but I just showed you that Churchill and the UK mustered out almost all of the colonies after the war. It was one of the most significant outcomes of the Second World War, and BTW the Brits won! India needs as much economic heft as it can possibly achieve. Free your markets, and unfetter your entrepreneurs. Although I don't know it directly, I'll wager that the Chinese and their bordering countries fared much, much worse after 1936 than India. I have a great deal of respect for the Indian war effort in the North African and Mediterranean Theater, BTW. From a military standpoint, India pulled its weight as well as any other ally not in the Big Four. best wishes. Capitalism is your solution; not unseemly commentary about Churchill.
