Ultravox! Human League (first two albums), Japan (first two albums), Devo, and Gary up to 81 were amazing days.

Agreed, though i will say that, IMO, the stuff he's doing now, from Pure through to Intruder, is brilliant too. I would also throw Simple Minds' Sons and Fascination & New Gold Dream into the mix too.

I have always believed that John Foxx was a huge influence on David Sylvian's Japan. Shame he never got quite the acclaim as the people that he inspired.

1st two japan albums were brilliant. others not so. sylvian hates them but they are so good.
He mentions approx 2:25 he was not bothered about the other one, Midge Ure came to Swimdon, England in the 90s and played an acoustic set with some Ultravox materia. Answers to Nothing lyrics Nm Djinm.

The john foxx iteration of ultravox is far superior imo
I remember John Foxx sort of dropped out of music and became the world's most prolific producer of images used for public domain for a number of years, or something like that. I guess that is no longer the case though. At any rate, after Ultravox! Foxx had a very successful graphic arts career.
I think Ultravox!'s look/presentation was fine, just a few years too early. They broke up just before the mainstream was ready for their music/look.

He's right about John Foxx being enigmatic. He has successfully kept his personal life private throughout his career. Does he have a family?

I know john foxx sang underpass, but as a solo artist, not while part of ultravox
I strongly disagree with Gary about Ultravox with Midge I thought both versions were excellent

Not really, Foxx was there first and 'Systems of Romance' effectively started the new wave genre
