He didn't have any family, money, a bunch of deamons from the past. His foster parents took much of his money, health problems too ... Plus I think people were extra aggressive toward him because he was small. I can see why he lost his sanity. People are cruel, it's a cruel world, It's to bad Gary couldn't find any peace, because he brought a lot of joy to many. Greatest child star ever! rip

He was in pain and often sick on the show. Todd, "Willis" said he himself cried one day because Gary was throwing up and barely able to act, but the show was lied to about his health by his parents. Gary sued his own parents for over a million for his finances. I'm glad he got the part and I'm glad his parents didn't say no, he's too sick to work. At the time, he was probably feeling the same, but who can blame him for saying he wished he'd of never done it or did it way differently.

What I’ve learned about TV actors and movie actors is fans react to them differently. When a TV character is in your home every week or everyday u feel u know them it’s more intimate. However, when it’s a movie actor it’s on a big screen so their image is much bigger. We tend to be in awe of movie actors and talk to TV actors like they’re our friends and neighbors. The fact that someone just asks “can u say your catchphrase” like he’s a wind up toy, proves my point.

As depressing as this interview already is, it actually gets worse. It took place only a few weeks after Dana Plato died and they brought her son on and had Gary try and cheer him up. I'd imagine with Gary being as private as he is, not being a fan of having to that in front of an audience Every time he has to watch a clip or asked to say that catchphrase, the dude has to be reminded of what happened on the set and what people he trusted did to him.

Totally agree. Some of the questions were disgusting.
He looked like he was fighting to suppress the deep seeded depression of a kid who was used up and spit out in Hollywood. He was trying hard to create a new identity from child star to young man. On that note, what kind of question is "I heard you are broke and a security guard"? Who cares if he's a security guard or bagging groceries? Let the man work and make a living! RIP

What they do is, they give you the world on a silver platter, but the second the rating drop and the money dries up, they kick you to the curb and then you realized you were only ever dollars signs to them. That's why a lot of these child stars come out the way they do. It's the reality of slimy Hollywood!
Gary doesn’t realize how many people he touched ,how much laughter he gave people, and how much joy. I wish he would celebrate and embrace that journey a little more, it was a beautiful gift. He came off somewhat guarded and remissive. I think the crowd was shocked a little bit. Thank god Gary accepted the hug. Love you Gary, thank you

@@parallax8207 Just because there was no internet at the time didn't mean they had to asked such questions. I mean asking someone if the rumors we're true that he was broke and working as a security guard seemed irrelevant and outta place. Even if it was true, did anyone expect him to deny it? But being in that situation alone is quite painful and hard to live with especially as the media has a way of portraying people like like they're worst person in the world. You could see how the questions made him uncomfortable. No need to rub such stuff in his face again.

Poor soul..RIP Gary..u lived entertaining us..we even didn't hv a clue u were going through so much of trauma..now we are grownup..we wanna see u smiling from up there..u made our lives good and inspiring..u were our hero..and u still are
He was so depressed here. RIP you will always be my favorite actor period!!!
I don't think there will ever be another child star like Gary Coleman. He was in a league of his own. There will never be another like him. May he R.I.P.

Cain. D yeah, he didn't need that. they would never treat him like a normal guy. they couldn't get past the Arnold character. I have to admit, I'd probably have a hard time getting around it as well. You'd see him and the recognition factor would kick in and you'd wanna treat him like you knew him, even though you didn't.
Asking to do his catchphrase must have been the bane of his life. It seems his entire person was wrapped up in that Arnold persona. RIP, Gary
