I played that guitar before Busey bought it from Sotheby’s for $230,000 while I curated the Hard Rock Cafe collection. When I played Not Fade Away on it everyone nearby got goosebumps. It gave me the chills! I’ve played a lot of famous guitars and this one had more mojo than all the others put together.

And over and over and over. In the early 90s when this aired, 1978 was 6,000 years before time. Nobody knew about the Buddy Holly movie, and fewer people gave a shit about it, but Gary was nominated and he milked the shit out of it till he's on Arsenio unable to remember the lyrics to a basic song. Coke, coke, coke, motorcycle accident, etc. Point Break is awesome and Jake was in the sequel to Groundhog Day, S.F.W..

I was in grade school when I saw him in The Buddy Holly Story. That was 45 years ago but I still vividly recall the roller rink scene and Ollie Vie. They say he insisted on doing the music live, and it's very clear from what we see here, that he had the chops to do it.

Busey had mentioned it during this show but Buddy Holly actually made the leather case that covered this guitar himself. This was a fad in Texas back then.

The case is ''tooled'' leather; Elvis had one a friend had made him. And YES, ''Covid'' IS a ''confirmed SCAM''.But, ''Bah Bah Bah'' go the obedient SHEEP.

For all the people worried about the broken string: Strings are replaced FREQUENTLY on a guitar. The older they are the worse they sound. So no big deal breaking one. I guarantee those are not the strings that were on the guitar when Holly was plunkin' on it.

At first I didn't think that Gary Busey was the best choice to play Buddy, but after seeing him in the movie I couldn't see anyone doing him better. A truly great performance. I had the same opinion when I saw Kurt Russell playing Elvis in John Carpenter's biopic, "Elvis." But I learned that if you're a good actor you can play anyone.

My friend told me about Gary and Rick Danko coming over to party with him at his apartment in North Beach, S.F. a few times. I was living in Wash. State those years he had celebrities around. He was also Janis Joplin's road manager before I knew him. He was in her book. He said the guys would play music and get high together. RIP to my friend Kenneth.
