Garry Pye Cartoon Animator Workshop - Martin and the Axe

Фильм және анимация

This is a sample of my Cartoon Animator Workshop videos. In this video, come behind the scenes and watch as I animate a scene of my actor Martin, as he walks across to an axe and picks it up.
This short workshop scenario is designed to show you how to get your CTA actors to interact with objects and their surroundings in a believable way. I'll show you may helpful tips and tricks that you can apply to your own CTA 2D animation, for better results.
My apologies that the Google Meet 'Stop Sharing' button is visible in this video. That will be turned off for future videos.
To find out how you can join my Cartoon Animator Workshops, please join my CTA Facebook page at / garrypyeanimations where I will announce dates for future Workshops as they are planned.
By joining my Workshops live, you will also get the chance to participate in the live Q&A session held at the end of each Workshop. But if your timezone does not permit you to join the Workshops live, I will also be selling the final videos of each Workshop in my Website Store at garrypyecreations.com/
If you have any questions, feel free to message me via my Facebook page and I will respond. And of there is a subject youd like to see covered in a future Workshop, leave a comment and let me know. Thanks for watching!

@@GarryPyeGary thanks for taking the time to reply and I might take you up on your offer. Right now I am at the Unconsciously Incompetent stage so I don't know what it is I don't know. But watching your work and your attention to detail quickly makes me realize how much I don't know, which is a step in the right direction. Thanks again and I will be in touch.

I'm just here because it said 'Free' on the FB Promo Graphic 😉 Good workshop. I think there needs to be more tutorials like this that cover basic but essential animation skills specific to CTA.

Well thats just about the nicest feedback I could receive. Thank you. I agree that its a helpful approach to show CTA users HOW to animate a scene and not just what each tool does. ANd the reason I present this Workshop free is so that everyone can see the angle Im coming from with these. I have a feeling there will be more! Thanks for watching.

Great tutorial. I love this software. With something like the axe in the ground, wouldn't it be a lot easier just to create a small (identical) overlay chunk of the background that hides the axe edge, then there's no need to alter the object to appear sunk into the ground, it would just be behind the small overlay (which can go away as soon as the axe is out of the ground if anything else in the scene might go behind it accidentally)?

Thank you for your video. Question: how do I import the final video to KZread? Is there a size/length limit? Thanks!

  • @GarryPye

From Cartoon Animator you have the option to Export your finished video as files like MP4, AVI etc. As for the limited size of your animation, what I do is to create each individual camera shot or angle of the animation as a separate project in Cartoon Animator and then edit them all together in post production using editing software (I use Pinnacle) and then upload your video to KZread. Best of luck!

Loved it! However, Martin's arm seems to reach over the axe. I think the bend of his arm should go the other way, coming from under. Is that just me? Other than that, most interesting. Great with the music, too!

  • @GarryPye

The reason Martins arm reaches over the axe in that particular direction was simply because I created the prop of the hand holding the axe without considering the angle. So I improvised when I did the Workshop. With more forethought, you could easily change the angle the hand is gripping the axe to suit the arm coming in from a different angle.
