kasparov: unfortunately for you, history will not see it that way
I remember this game! Afterwards Garry was asked about his rook sac on move 23 and he said he'd calculated a long line a couple move earlier and saw the rook sac was a possibility. Reviewing the game the commentators saw that Garry spent like 22+ minutes on move 21, before the knight trade, and less than 5 minutes on move 23 when he sac'd the rook. People were plugging that into the weak 1999 engines (Fritz, HIARCS) and letting it run for hours and even days only to confirm it was good, what Garry had determined in 22 mins 2 moves earlier. What a game.

That is classic Kasparov - able to unleash layers upon layers of attack despite seemingly leaving himself vulnerable to a strong counter attack. Once he made that first large piece sacrifice, you were normally in enormous trouble, even if you could defend like Karpov (which you could not).
Apparently, this Kasparov guy really did his best to be featured in Gotham's video. Ok jokes aside, this game just blew my mind. How beautiful chess is!

Topalov is such a great player he avoided mate in like 20 moves. Kasparov is just one of the greatest chess players if not the greatest of all time.
I remember we analyzed this game in the chess club a shortly after it was played. The crazy thing is Kasparov had a good position and could have just played normal moves, but he went for this rook sacrifice. He must have seen it all in advance or at least calculated deep enough that he saw some sort of advantage in all continuations.
The best analysis I've seen on this famous game. Great job, Levy.
