Garry Dial & Dick Oatts feat. by WDR BIG BAND - Ellington Unheard | Full Concert Part 1

Музыка

The WDR BIG BAND performs previously unreleased works by Duke Ellington under the direction of its principal conductor Richard DeRosa (arrangements). Musical guests are Garry Dial on piano, who also wrote a large part of the arrangements, and Dick Oatts on saxophone. Recorded June 3, 2016 at the Philharmonie in Cologne, Germany.
After the death of composer and bandleader Duke Ellington in 1974, Garry Dial was entrusted by Ellington's family with the honorable task of sifting through and arranging Duke's musical estate. Garry Dial studied stacks of scores, fragments and notes. No work for the sidelines. As a result, many unpublished works came to light, which are now being premiered with the WDR BIG BAND.
Tracklist - Part One:
01 - Hey, Baby [00:04]
02 - Let The Zoomers Drool [12:02] C
03 - I Like Singing [20:20]
04 - Just A Gentle Word [29:35]
05 - Introspection 36:42]

Just A Gentle Word [29:35] seems rare to me as I've never heard Ellington perform a Latin American rhythm.

@@unfaithfulmisery5203 Not sure if you'll get this as you appear to have deleted your reply to my original post. Firstly, I'm not American. Secondly, my comment was a light-hearted jest and the exclamation mark would have given this away in my country, but perhaps not in yours, a regrettable cultural misunderstanding. Sorry. (Interesting, thx. Another title you could call yourself is "Unmitigated Misery"!)

Actually, Roland, the arrangements were written by the two soloists Garry Dial & Dick Oatts. The unheard" part of the concert title may be that the tunes never made it to Ellington's repertoire.
