Garnet & Diamond Revival: Emotional Jewelry Remake
Ойын-сауық
Here's an emotional jewelry transformation I recently finished. I'm thrilled to take you on a journey through a jewelry restoration that's truly close to my heart. In this video, I'll walk you step by step through the process of remounting a special engagement ring and its matching wedding band. What makes this restoration truly unique is the heartfelt story behind it.
The daughter of the original owner entrusted me with this meaningful project after her mother's recent passing. The set had been left without gemstones, as they were moved to another ring while her mother was still with us. But we're about to change that! Our mission? To fill these empty settings with genuine garnets and diamonds. It's a challenge, as the prongs were destroyed during the previous gemstone removal. But armed with my laser welder and craftsmanship, we're rebuilding every single prong from scratch.
I'll also share a common jewelry repair process-re-shanking a ring. This is a technique I often use to revitalize dated heirlooms, and it might just be the solution you're looking for with your own jewelry. So, get ready to witness the artistry, dedication, and emotion that goes into every step of this restoration.
As we delve into the re-shanking process, you'll see how worn-out shanks are transformed into durable, perfectly-fitted bands. I'll guide you through the precise cutting, shaping, and crafting that leads to a flawless result.
But that's not all; we're also diving into the intricate world of stone setting. I'll show you how I resurrected the prongs, providing a foundation for gorgeous genuine garnets and diamonds. Watch as I cut seats for each gemstone, delicately place them, and secure them with meticulous precision.
And of course, no restoration is complete without the finishing touches. Polishing, cleaning, and even rhodium plating for that extra luster-it's all here.
If you're captivated by craftsmanship, sentimental stories, and the transformative power of jewelry restoration, you're in for a treat. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button to stay updated with more heartwarming projects, inspiring stories, and artisanal creations. Together, let's celebrate the beauty of craftsmanship and the enduring legacy of cherished jewelry.

This project is beautiful to me, because I lost my wonderful mother to cancer in January, which is also her birth month. Mine is April, so diamond is my birthstone too. I just love how the beautiful rings turned out. Keep up the great work!

Nice to see someone incorporate garnets into personalzed jewelry. The so called 'semi-precious' stones really don't get the attention they deserve in modern jewelry. Just because they're less rare and therefore less valuable, doesn't make them less beautiful, imo.

It's so neat how your discipline uses a blend of modern and ancient techniques. Going in on the metal with laser cutters and vats of chemicals... Then using beeswax to help set the gems, as I imagine jewelers would have done hundreds of years ago! The remade ring is a stunner!
I love learning what goes into our jewelry making… the methods and hearing the human side as well when pieces have an emotional side as well. We don’t usually get to know or see what goes on behind the scenes with our jewelry repairs…. This is great!!
What a lovely transformation, and cherished by her daughter, I’m sure

I have a mother of pearl and diamond necklace that was made from my great-great grandfather's tie tack. Looking forward to making an appointment with you to have it turned into something I want to wear, over 100 after my ancestor did.

Awww bless so beautiful this made me cry, i have recently received a ring from my nan with garnet, opal, and diamonds in a gold band. She wore it every day, it was given to me as she's passed away. Garnet, opal and diamond are very special to me as they are also loved ones birth stone's mine is diamond garnet is my mum's and opal is my daughter's. My nan wore many ring's all with garnet's diamond's or Ruby's her favourite stone's but she only had one ring with opal. I feel so blessed to have been given this ring it was my favourite one and i would play (wear it for a bit) with it as a child. It's a special gift that i will one day give to my daughter
Gorgeous

Wow! That is beautiful! I love how you recycle old wedding rings to redo the shanks. I think that makes it even more meaningful, as those were once a part of someone else’s story. My grandpa (he died before I was born) and father in-law were both jewelers, so I find this so interesting. My father in law actually made my engagement ring. Part of the setting on the side wasn’t quite perfect and I actually loved the fact it wasn’t. It showed it was actually made by a person rather than a manufacturer. Unfortunately it was lost, but my niece ordered me one that looked almost the same. On another note anyone reading this should get jewelers insurance. You never think you’ll loose your wedding ring until you do and then it’s too late, a small price to pay if you ever end up needing it.
This is unique and beautiful!

How pretty that turned out 🤩 i was wondering if you end up with any injuries using such small equipment or even metal slivers?
This popped up on my feed again … 2 questions … 1. Does the joinery create a weakened area on the band when you replace the bottom band? 2. I always wondered about the wood on your tool bench … how often do you have to replace that?
How long does the rhodium coating last ?
Why did another jeweler remove the original stones?
Where are you located? It seems like a fun job and you are very passionate too.
