Been waiting a long time for the off road pedals!

I bought a pair of vector 3 pedals three weeks ago to help with my rehab. Love them so far! Glad to hear they haven’t changed much.

I was burned so many times on Vector 2 and Vector 3. Think I went through three sets of Vector 3 via Garmin's support. Not a single issue with Favero Assiomas over the last 18 months. If Garmin had moved to a sealed battery compartment, I might consider Vector again in the future. As it stands with the many iterations of battery cover, seals, baby oil, etc. Not a chance.

Took me 5 months to warranty a faulty Assioma, every week they gave me a new set of tasks to perform. Luckily I had multiple power meters on my bike and was able to prove to them that their pedal was off using DC Rainmaker's analyzer tool and they finally sent me one but not until they confirmed that my old one was disabled. Truly appalling customer service. The replacement ones work perfectly btw, and I'm pretty sure that most people's pedals do too but I can't get behind a company that treats their customers this way because even the best products have a potential to need customer support one day so I'm getting rid of mine as soon as my Rallys arrive.

Battery seal issue has been fixed on my vectors. Nightmare to begin with granted with plastic threads getting stripped, but Garmin replaced under warranty and have since had no problem

Still assioma duo for me. No water ingress and no need to change batteries. Plus IAV! Power meter should not be complicated to use.

Useful advice on the cycling dynamics data. I was thinking of upgrading to dual sided for this. May hold off now

Finally SPD-SL.... great if I hadn’t already replaced everything with Keo to go with my vectors! My 3s work well fortunately.

My right side pedal seems to have just decided to die... Worked back and forth with Garmin and they sent me "new" refurb pedals after trying a battery circuit board replacement that still didn't fix the original dead pedal. All up and running smoothly again now with the new pedals. Garmin continuing to be great at customer support!

Nice review as always although I have to admit my interest waned when you mentioned the price! I know power meters are expensive, they were never gonna be 200 bucks but there’s always the hope that maybe this is the year that power meters will become more mass market... hey ho maybe 2022 then!!!

Thanks for the review. I was holding out a little hope, but these are just way too expensive. Crank based meters are really beating these pedal meters.

Fun fact: It's actually a dual-sided 4iiii. :) I literally sent them in an XX1 crankset just like any other order and was like: Umm...can you make it a double?

Just picked up some XCs keeping my fingers crossed.

Great overview Ray! I'm actually impressed with the pedal body conversion kits. I *think* athletes might be up for using them. XC in the winter and RK/RS in the summer? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great review. I am definitely a Garmin Fan Boy. I was an early adopter of the original vector and still use Vector 2’s. I have had no technical issues and the gen2 pedal pods have been flawless. I have seriously considered other options, especially the Assioma pedals but unlike others here I have had such a great experience with Garmin and their support that I have no real reason to try anything else.

Bettter buy Power2Max! Install, load the battery and forget. I just works perfect for 100s of hours till the next charing cycle and then you are good to go for the next 100s. And you get 5 years warranty.

7:20 Ha Ha - I hate those slippery tree roots just off parallel to the trail. Never say Ray doesn't give it all up for a Great Review!

Been there, felt that. I mostly use flat pedals on sketchy roots now. I’m 63 & don’t heal very quickly any more.

So are these $1100 boat anchors once the pedal bearings wear out? or can you replace the bearings?

DCR - love that t-shirt! Care to share the deets on how to own one? As for the pedals . ..such great timing was about to purchase the V3 and then convert (From Shimano) to the Look system - finally a win. As always great content.

So I'll wait to see if the Rally are more reliable than the Vector's. I'm hoping for a new Favero model. The CR 1/3N batteries are rather pricey and harder to come by.

Az first I was like "sweet, finally an SPD pedal powermeter!" and then I saw the prices... for 1000USD, you get a Dura Ace crankset together with the 2-sided powermeter from Stages/4iiii...

@@pablogsm91 Shimano GRX (Gravel) are not affected in theory.

you mention cost toward the end - the big sell for me was the ability to use the spd on multiple bikes - I can use on my mountain and gravel set ups - you are not locked into a crank-based meter - I race/ride gravel - cx - and mtb - and can use these pedals on all three - to upgrade all those bikes to power using crank-based would surely be more -

I was thinking of getting a Garmin Rally XC200 as I'm doing research you had answered a couple of questions 1 was the off-road usage but the other & most important I want to get them for Medical My knees are very weak My left knee has been replaced and I've had 10 knee surgeries possibly 11 coming Yup on the same knee other knee has 3 no hardware as of yet. I told my doctor about these petals and if he can back me up on him and I think he will but I wanna see if they're worth getting i Have a E bike and I'd like to know if they will fit on that type of bike. Would you recommend this to keep track of Pressure And do you have to be clipped onto those pedals that's the only drawback that I don't like is it they're small And do you have to clip on Hope you can help me out. Can I effectively train with the single sided setup? I'm buying something for my NICA racing daughters who are 12 and 14. So these seem pretty inexpensive considering power meters

I hear you but I also hear the word « Garmin » and think of all of my past issues with their products. Including things like the Garmin Scale that just up and died while unused. Software that is still buggy 10 major versions in. I’m not sure I’d want to take the price risk.

When if comes to the parameters, except Advance Dynamics is there any other difference between XC100 and XC200? Is there anything extra that XC200 is showing?

How compatible are with a Whaoo Elemnt Bolt? Do you get some cycling dynamics like L/R balance?

The rally xc SPD's are the logical choice for those of us who can't afford multiple pm's and the ability to take the pedals with you on trips where you rent a bike is another advantage. You can buy a new bike and not have to take the crank with you to the new bike!

I got excited about an SPD pedal power meter you can actually get hold of, but can't find a retailer in the UK with the single sided SPD version in stock yet. Garmin says they should ship in 3-5 weeks. Oh well, another month for IQ² to ship their SPD version 😅.

Really depends on whether or not you plan to move the pedals, or use them elsewhere. If not, I see little reason to get the pedals. The Quarq will 'just work', be less prone to damage, and costs less.

Technically totally plausible, though I'm not sure if there are any patent issues they'd run into.

Do i need a cycling computer or can i use them with a Garmin Fenix 7 watch?

Can I use my existing cleats if I am going from SPD SL to SPD SL?

Can you test the accuracy after using them a few years? Only dualrecording? Theres no calibrationservice right?

I ride with spd cleats on road shoes but I want to use spd-sl, do I need to buy new shoes??

Ray, 2 questions : 1. Can the new end caps fit on Vector 3 and are toehold available as replacement part? 2. Do you expect Vector 3 to be still available at a lower price?

The new caps are technically Vector 3 caps with Rally wording on them. ;) And you can simply contact support to get them for free.

Hey Ray, does Garmin Rally allows you to unclip 'heel in' rather than 'heel out'? I cant twist outwards like most riders and had this issue with favero assioma not being able to twist inwards.

Yeah, no issues with that. Of course, it'll depend a bit on your frame/positioning for clearance there. But I occasionally do that sometimes.

The good news is that with a less expensive Vector 3, you can still use the Rally bodies just fine.

Physically you can install them, but from a technical standpoint neither Vector 3 nor Rally support oval chainrings, so power will typically be slightly inflated (and varies based on cadence).

The assioma's are clearly better based on price. I don't think the Garmin's offer anything additional for the added cost.

@@JulianAndresKlode I haven't read or heard of Favero rechargeable batteries failing. Mine are still going strong with no discernible degradation. If replaceable batteries work for you and the addition cost doesn't bother you, then Garmin is the way to go for you.

@@cusebike5391 I have not heard of failures yet either, but it's guaranteed; after 250 charge cycles Li-Ion batteries have lost 80%, if they get cold or hot during use, the cells damage more. Now I'm not sure how long it takes to reach 250 cycles. Let's assume you ride 2.5h per day, one cycle will be 20 days, so 250 cycles will take 20*250=5000 days or - assuming you ride every day of the year - 13.7 years of riding. So I guess it's not really going to be a problem in practice, unless there's catastrophic deep discharge (that's how I killed a laptop battery once :/)

@@JulianAndresKlode 17/18 hours a week? Wow! I'm pretty sure the pedals will give out before the batteries. Folks have had these pedals for up to four years. I think they'd be noticing a problem by now.
