Garmin Fusion Upgrade for Elim

Elim gets an upgraded stereo! The 2019 Classic had a Polk PA4A stereo which was a dated design and the Bluetooth functionality was horrible. I chose the Garmin Fusion as the replacement before I knew that Airstream had made the same move. It’s a much better stereo and works with modern smart phones (our main source of entertainment) much better. We’ve been very happy with the Fusion and it’s integration with the rest of the electronics on board.

Nice job with the install! My Fusion stopped working once and I pulled it from the wall only to find out that the breaker had tripped in the fuse panel. I wasted a lot of time pulling it out but did learn a lot about the Fusion. For example, the radio has it's own fuse in back, which I pulled out and put back in during removal. We find we use the radio more often since the Airstream 365 plan expired! We used to keep the tv on all of the time since the plan was unlimited. Now we listen to the radio unless we want to watch a specific tv show or KZread video. We have the AT&T $55 per month for 100 GB plan so we watch our usage carefully.

I really like the Fusion and had decided on it after perusing the Crutchfield catalog before I ever found out Airstream had moved to it. We use the Bluetooth and AirPlay connectivity most often, though we also use the SiriusXM radio (but only when I can get a deal - I'm not going to pay $30/month for that.) Occasionally we use the TV or Aux inputs. Being deaf, my wife really likes having her own zone that can connect to her earbuds or her hearing aids. All in all, I really like the Fusion. It does have some idiosyncrasies that you have to learn to deal with (such as turning off the party buss if you're using it as the sound source for the TV or DVD player), but I think it's one of the better RV/boat stereos on the market. Kudos to you for being brave enough to pull it out and inspect it!
