Garmin Edge 540 vs. 840 Navigation Test

In my today's test in practice I would like to introduce you to the navigation of the two new Garmin devices Edge 540 and Edge 840. The navigation itself, are identical to the two solar variants. In the first part I show you what exactly is possible in navigation and then we start of course a tour planned in Komoot (including waypoints from Garmin Connect). Here I show you how ClimbPro works, the turn-by-turn directions run, details of the map, the power guide and of course the rerouting. In addition, we look at the battery consumption and the GPS data in more detail.

Vielen Dank für das sehr detaillierte Testvideo. Für mich ist die Touchsteuerung vorzuziehen. Ich hatte mir letztes Jahr den Edge 1040 gekauft, den ich für mein Indoor-Rad wie auch für mein E-Bike nutze. Wenn ich das richtig sehe, ist der 840 nur kleiner, hat aber dafür eine alternative Tastensteuerung. Ich finde den 840 bzw. den 540 ein bißchen klein geraten. Andererseits ist bei Regen eine Tastensteuerung als Option sicher sinnvoll. Die Spiegelung im Display stört auch beim 1040 etwas, ist aber nicht kritisch. Mit dem Akku bin ich auch sehr zufrieden. Gerade bei der Solarversion muss ich sehr selten aufladen. Das ist sehr komfortabel.

Danke dir! Ja der Edge 840 ist quasi der kleine Bruder und reiht sich bei der Größe dann doch gut seinem Vorgänger an. Ja gerade bei Regen hast du dann den großen Vorteil, alles über die Tasten bedienen zu können. Auch die Akkulaufzeit dürfte für die allermeisten doch sehr ausreichend sein.
Gutes Video, bei der Navigation hätte ich allerdings den grünen waagerechten Balken deaktiviert, so bleibt mehr Platz für die Karte...so habe ich es zumindest gemacht😅Grüße

Danke dir - ja ist ein bisschen Geschmacksache. Da ich viel im hügeligen Gebiet fahre, finde ich den da tatsächlich sehr praktisch. Aber es ist gut, das es die Option gibt, diesen abzuschalten.

Danke dir - den 830 habe ich seit einer Weile nicht mehr. Daher kann ich dafür leider keinen Vergleich mehr liefern.
Vielen Dank Welche Karten sind da drauf? Die normalen Garmin wie auch beim ontana oder GPSMap? Ich suche eher ein Trail-/ Wandergerät für die Berge. Das Montana hat noch die alte Technik verbaut und das GPSMap hat mir für die Größe einen zu kleinen Bildschirm. Die Radlcomputer wären da praktischer 😊

Hi erst mal vielen Dank! Garmin installiert die Garmin Cycle Maps auf die Geräte ( support.garmin.com/de-AT/?faq=1sYQRWxUh55jMyl1pGo2Z6 ) - da könnte es in den Bergen vorkommen, das hier diverse Wege fehlen. Du hast theoretisch aber die Option auch OSM Karte auf die Geräte zu bringen - ob das aber immer Fehlerfrei läuft, kann ich dir an dieser Stelle nicht garantieren.

Hello, ClimbPro is probably not activated. Go to the 3 dashes, then to Activity profiles and select yours. Then go to "Climbs" and here you can activate ClimbPro. It may be that it is called something different in the English menu than written here, as I only use the German one.
