The DS seems to essentially bitcrush everything, so the harsh digital sound is definitely part of things. There's also the likelihood of a specific scale being forced on everything you make, which means even random assortments of notes tend to sound at least acceptable.

warioware diy is legit how i got started making music. when it came out and i was like 10 years old, i knew i wanted to make electronic music someday but was terrified of ever using a DAW cause they looked so complicated. this game helped ease me into the concept of making music digitally and i may not be making music today if i didn't play it! so wonderful and nostalgic to see that you also remember its existence and are having fun making music the same way i used to spend hours doing. Man, I had this game as a kid and spent HOURS making little tunes...and yet I never had the idea to incorporate the SFX and Effects panels into the tune of the song itself as musical punctuation. To me, they were just silly sounds that I ignored because they didn't seem to fit. Just goes to show how incredible Louie is at making music. Astounding to me that he can look at things I always ignored, like the alien scream, or even the CRICKET instrument, and make them feel like vital aspects of the song.

I remember having fun handling 6/8 songs with it, sorting out a 5/4 time must've been something! I love how you're using the player's feature to complete the tracks and taking advantage of the looping and the sfx to use the beginning of some tracks as an outro. The speed slider was my absolute favorite thing to play around with so the way you did it for bassball leaves my jaw on the floor, absolutely outstanding

Wow amazing work! I played the with the music maker way more on this game than I ever did the comics or game maker. It's actually pretty amazing what you can create with and it definitely encouraged me to try to stick with music as I continued to grow older. Recently I powered up DIY and listened to all the old tracks I made. Some of them are pretty rough but there are a few pretty nice sounding ones as well.
