Why can't we have both? A rebooted or remaked modern and improved version with all the fancy stuff that comes with it. Graphically and gameplay wise, like quick menu etc. And a new title entirely, be it a sequel or prequel doesn't really matter. As long it is part of the franchise and makes sense lore wise. If a new title would be too difficult for what ever reasons, then why not release an addon pack for the "reboot/remake"? Its ironic that some one with the name Dal 'Gurak is against reboots. Because there is a character with the exact same name in the game *Severance - Blade of Darkness*. A game I personally consider, one of the best and unique games ever created. And I want this game again so badly, with modern graphics and improved controls. It just saddens Me so much, that bloody tears are running from my eyes. Because we may never get a game like this ever again.

We don't need a "reboot": we need more of the series, without rebooting anything.

I want to imagine that in an alternate universe, Capcom used Demons Quest to say that in one point FireBrand admired the strenght of the human knight who defeated him. Firebrand was curious about the strenght that drove that knight into the impossible. So he sided with humans and hence became known as... SPARDA. As a background lore to set in Devil May Cry.

Long time fan of Demons Crest here and glad to finally see it getting some love. I do vaguely remember a character mentioning the hidden smash mini-game but I can't remember exactly where. Also, another cool thing is the people in the towns have different things to say to you depending what form you are in. Man, now I want to go replay Demons Crest.

Well Derek, you truly have given me an impact on this game. I remember stumbling upon your channel one day and finding this video, and was absolutely stunned at how cool this game looked. I researched it, found videos on it, and fell in love with it. Because of you, and this amazing video, you have given me the ability to own all 3 of these games in their original cartridges. Thank you so much for all that you've done, because of you I own 3 fantastic games in my collection, and wouldn't have even stumbled upon them hadn't it been for you. :)

I remember when I saw this video for the first time I screamed like a little girl. So good I watched it numerous times (and it made me discover the first two game's soundtracks, which are wonderful!). I saw you playing this on the spooky stream recently (on the upload, I keep missing the actual stream) and I simply had to come back to this. I love your streams a lot AND PLEASE DO NOT LET THE HATE GET TO YOU. I do enjoy the full reviews more but as a video creator myself I know how much time it takes. It's time calculated by days! A stream should never interfere with this as most of them lasts no more than two hours (except the Megaman Legends one, Jesus dude I'm still picking a good day for it). Plus, He has help setting and running them and it gives a chance for his nerdy bffs to speak their mind. A little note, you two were hilarious in the Clock Tower one. Oh scissor man... Streams not being your cup of tea is totally fine, it's not mine either. But saying he should trash them and only focus on his HVGN review is wrong. So Derek, chillin' with you is always a treat and hey, don't let them skeletons get to yours! And I'm french and this took me 30 minutes to fu****g proofread so you better cheer up or I'll Splatter your face Sweet Home style! that sounds just wrong.

16:16 theres a similar pit in gargoyle's quest 1, both are very difficult to cross. however, after what were probably years, i figured out a trick that helps out: while flying across, try to slowly descend by falling just a tiny bit again and again, so sort of a slightly diagonal direction. this prevents you from building up downwards speed at the end, when your wingstrength runs and you fall for a much longer distance, accelerating to a high speed. with these multiple small falls, you can reset your downwards speed each time and keep it rather low. i know its weird and maybe not that simple to grasp why this works out (it seems unlikely the developers actually thought about this), but i found it gave me just enough edge to survive these jump much more reliably.

Spikes everywhere, bullets and enemies from all sides, and the game has that old annoyance of really old games where an enemy will respawn if you let their spawn point move off the screen and then back on again for even a second! I found the first (gameboy) gargoyle game on a massive junkyard on the far side of my village about 10 years ago. O God did it frustrated me! I sold it in lake a month. Played a first few levels and always die. It was to hard for 12 year old me. And now, seeing this, I want it back! So many memories...

Re Demon's Crest and slowdown: 1) sound on the SNES will never slow down, even if the game does. It's a separate DSP (SPC7000) that has its own loops, outside the game's main 65c816 chip. 2) The reason that the main game code slows down has more to do with the type and frequency of collision detection, rather than the visual elements themselves.

This game (the first one) never seemed to have much of a reputation to me and I just tried it randomly, but I got hooked. The wall clinging and verticality seem unusual for games of this age and it seems like it was way ahead of its time. And my son was enjoying it too and pointed out to me "hey look you can cling on to a tree and shoot the other way" etc. Good fun game.

@Pyroimp Derek seldom drinks wine, he prefers whisky. But the Happy Nerd drinks Red Diamond, Apothic Red and Xwindery because the labels look cool and photograph well.

25:53, actually, that gargoyle in the credits is General Arma, the same gargoyle with which you were fighting at multiple times. Firebrand was always the way you saw him in the artwork of the game cartridge. :)

Finally, some love for my favorite series of the 8- and 16-bit eras! Thanks for the great retrospective as usual, Derek. I was always puzzled why Capcom never followed up on the incredible GQ3 for super nes, but I guess poor sales can kill any ambitious franchise. Although, there is hope seeing as how our boy Firebrand (kickass cool in any form, mind you) made a great return in UMvC3, there's still hope for a re-release/remake/new game.
