Gareth Gates you are a beautiful human being inside and out. You should be extremely proud of yourself. I bet the bullies from your past haven't done nearly as well as you. Xx😊

I went to school with Gareth and was a year above him at the ctc. I can remember one time our class and myself being utterly awful (like 13 14 years old) it's been nearly 30 years and I still cringe and feel awful for this. Sorry Gareth, genuinely happy for your journey through life.

i too was bullied at school , and i wish my bullies had said sorry to me , one of my biggest bullies was a teacher who caused me to try to take my own life as i feared going to school as i never knew when she would creep up behind me and and assault me , after years of this i wanted to die so i didnt have to go to school , as i never saw her coming creeping up behind me , i never got a sorry from her i know i never will , but i have so much respect for you being brave to admit you was a bully and say your sorry online to Gareth , im sure hes likely seen your message and forgiven you , but maybe you could write a letter to him personally too and explain why you bullied him ? im sure you wasnt happy yourself at the time ? i admire you so much for being so brave to admit this , i think writing him a letter will help him so much and help you to , xx

It’s great that you feel remorseful for what you done to him and are apologising but no amount of apologies can make the mental scars from bulling go away. This man will be affected by this his whole life.

I had a stammer and people did the same to me at school. Reach out in apology to him, towards making amends for him, but not to make yourself feel better.

Wow. That moment of vulnerability was beautiful and resonant. I think a lot of people can relate to being bullied and ostracized as kids (hand up) and then carrying it with them as negative emotion for years. I really appreciated the respect and patience that the DS showed him during the conversation.

The psychological effects of severe bullying can last a lifetime, and the pain never fully goes away for people like Gareth. Poor guy clearly has some PTSD from the bullying he received in school for his stammer/stutter. It’s almost as if he’s been transported back into his childhood self, again.

Practically everyone gets bullied in School, mine was a horrid experience & I get very emotional regarding this too but I put my big girl pants on & dealt with it. It’s a shame that he still needs healing, such a nice boy. All the best Gareth 😘

I too struggled with stuttering, but a book I’ve found earlier this year, Stop Stuttering Short Course: How to Break the Stuttering Code by Lee Lovett helped me immensely. His books and WSSA program will truly help for those who are committed to overcoming it.
