The earthworm debate is confusing. I still don’t quite have my head wrapped around the soil health spectrum of each area. Your teaching about the bacteria and fungi balance is a key element. Still, I’m At kidnegarden after decades of being in the soil, with many teachers along the way. Some of the best soil I’ve seen is crawling with worms, some of the best had none. I’ve got friends into the Steiner thing, into the anti worms thing, into the vermaculture thing, hugelkulture, and all of it seems like it’s both on point and off. I’m turning 50 acres of mixed forest , much recently clear cut, into paradise. I am working hard to preserve the Healthy trees and making pastures and food forests out of the scrub. A balance I’ve yet to really hit.

Great video Billy. I use straw as bedding for my goats and chickens. I have been just tossing it into the compost pile when it starts to get too soiled, but after watching this I think I will start putting it around my younger trees in my orchard and on areas I plan on planting this spring in order to get the worms and microorganisms to flock to those areas. Thanks for the great information.

Hey! I'm a microbe farmer, too! Awesome! It was such a blessing to hear you call yourself a microbe farmer, because that is what I have been calling myself for a while now. Microbes are the flocks and herds. "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds." Proverbs 27:23 (I know that flocks fly. those are the birds, bees, hummingbirds, etc. Everything works for us, eh?)

@@ML-ks2lj No, we are wonderfully and fearfully made by the hand of a loving Creator who breathed the breath of life into us. I am sorry that you have so little respect for yourself, and that you consider yourself to be of little to no actual value. No wonder this cursed world is so sad and empty. We are not basically microbes that grew multiple cellular structures. The code written into our DNA proves the Truth, if you are willing to stop loving your lusts more than the Truth.

I would wish that one day the educational elites (professors) of agriculture would wise up to your wisdom. Maybe 10% of nature can be observed and duplicated in a petri dish. It has to be done in a real classroom, the outdoors. Great explaining again, Billy. God bless. Wu Tang out.

Wish I could get wheat straw where I live. All the wheat farmers in my area grow short-stem wheat, then burn the stubble in the field after harvest. I could do the same with Grazon-free hay (as long as I can trust the supplier), but it would cost more.

I use my chickens to weed and uproot entire areas I want to plant. I just fence off a 20x20 area and leave a few of my older birds inbthere that don't lay so well and come back in a few days after they scratchvand till it all up and leave their fertilizer behind then I move the birds to the next spot and plant the bare area with whatever I had in mind, typically oats barley or clover forna cover crop.

If the list you're talking about is something like chipdrop, there is a faster way; just contact your local arborists and offer them a place to dump a load of wood chips for free. Coffee grounds are high nitrogen so mix with leaves or wood chips and let it compost, obviously the leaves will be ready faster but you could sift the wood chips after awhile and still get some nice stuff.

Have you called the local tree services and asked them? They're usually happy to dump chips as it saves them the trouble of disposing of them.
