Excellent video. Very good explanations and demos. Well done! Exactly what I was looking for as I try to decide on what hoe to purchase. As you pointed out, not everyone has an unlimited budget for tools and needs to make decisions on what tools to purchase and, I agree there isn't a lot of info out there clearly showing the differences . Watching from Ontario Canada.

I'm 6 foot in my wellies and love my dutch hoe. It's usefull when clearing a bigger patch or in foot paths between garden beds. Gotta lean into it for the right angle and good long strokes. Clearing two to three foot swaths with each stroke. I use stirrup hoes or wire weeders for closer work in around plants.

A good tip. Being tall myself I’m always glad to find ways to reduce bending over to garden

I liked the Bossa Nova music while you were demonstrating the use of the stirrup hoe. This will be very helpful for my upcoming Landscaping job here on Vancouver Island, BC. Thank you for this video.

Hello! US gardener here. I have never seen anything like a dutch hoe in my hardware store, so it was interesting to see that unfamiliar tool. What you call a stirrup hoe is called a scuffle hoe here. I use one frequently. Mine is of similar construction to your version, but on mine the bottom piece of steel is completely straight. Enjoyed your video, particularly that you were unfazed by the wind.

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed! I'm quite used to wind now, the last year has been really windy in my garden!😅

Nice comparison. I'm 6'2" and have been deliberating over getting a stirrup hoe, think you've convinced me. I ended up bending the head of my dutch hoe in a vice to change the angle a bit so could use it a bit more upright, but stirrup definitely looks more ergonomic. Worth sharpening the dutch one often with a file though, it does help if it's got a good edge on it.

The stirrup hoe definitely saves me from having to bend over! I've been keeping the stirrup hoe sharp too! :)

Nice video, I just bought a stirrup hoe, never used one in my life, iv always pulled by hand but I figured my new allotment plot would be somewhat more difficult to manage than my garden beds so I invested in a few tools to help speed up my rounds when things get going 😁

Would you recommend this hoe for a short person? I rarely use my Dutch hoe because it is hard work and cumbersome so I end up sitting and hand weeding which is very slow. That hoe looks much easier if suitable for my 5'2" .

So glad my video helped! I haven’t had to sharpen mine yet but I would use either a fairly fine file or use a designated sharpening tool! Would a tool maintenance video be something you may be interested in? Thanks!😃

@@TheWelshGardener Yes Owen they really are the business. Don't worry about the video quality, it's still perfectly watchable. I never noticed it before on your videos, but it may have happened on your upload to youtube this time round. Looking forward to seeing videos with the new camera. I think people prefer it when the video/audio quality is better. Only started gardening this year. I had nothing to do during lockdown so I started. I really like it. I'm doing all flowers though but I still pick up tips from your videos. I will start on doing a few vegetables next spring. Keep up the good work.

Not so bad, but I needed to do some repairs, but luckily everything in the Tunnel can be grown outside, just waiting for the Storm to calm down before I put the Cover back on.
