As a birder and Garden Railway person this is fascinating, the Blackbird is definitely acting as if the trains are a threat/predator. Bet the nest isnt far away. Never seen this behaviour before !

That blackbird just don't like trains for some reason. Maybe he thinks they are snakes or something.. But it's amazing to watch .

I remember reading a article about a garden railway in an edition of the Railway Modeller where the author said that you don't realise how much wildlife and there is in a garden and how family pets act. From slugs and snails on the track to mice taking up residence in a tunnel, birds throwing dead leaves onto the track when looking for insects and spiders and webs ending up on the locos as well as the family rabbit running along the track thinking its a train and the family cat deciding that the bridge that carries the railway over the pond is a great place to stalk the fish. Which is why mine is fully demountable when not in use. It takes a little while to set up but it saves a lot of aggravation.

In deed. But lovely to have wildlife around. Slugs even get into our pantry, but we cope.

Yes thats Blackbirds for you. One watched me plant my sweetcorn then proceded to dig up every seed and eat them. Luckily they dont present a problem to our local rolling stock in Tywyn.

Blackbirds are apparently declining in the UK and should be encouraged not deterred. Perhaps a long removable tunnel from the entrance might suffice as the bird will probably lose interest outside the nesting/mating season.

I have plastic garden mesh around the outside and inside of my 3 feet high garden railway test track. I used a staple gun to fix it to the decking boards on which my track is laid. The mesh is cheap but takes time to cut the lengths and height required. I too have had a blackbird swooping down on running trains but it never made contact. Thanks for all the videos 😎👍🏻

I think you are right, from it's stance I would agree with territory protection. Quite why an inanimate object should attract attention I'm not sure. He must have learned to associate it with the moving trains. And possible answer to the 40's mishap. Well caught action. Perhaps a warning to other garden operators, of whom there are many. 👍👍👍👍

Fascinating! I've never seen that, even though I've been feeding the birds etc. by model railway for a few years now. Maybe he sees it as another male blackbird? I have seen blackbirds muscle in on jays who were feeding from the wagons. Also (I've just remembered) many years ago I had an N Gauge outdoor layout and had a blackbird attack a train. Only happened once.

It's the Giant Claw! (I don't recall the Giant Behemoth or Gorgo attacking a train.) Maybe you should equip your steamers with a smelly smoke unit? Or like Ewhurstgreen said, run some bare wire on the telegraph pole's insulators to form an electric fence.

Mr. Black bird is a friend of Rosa's. That means all pigeons are known as Rosa. Not very keen on the British stuff, because your couplings are on truck/boogie. I have ho (Santa Claus) gauge. My couplings are on the body. I said that to someone running N gauge on KZread. And the said it just has to work. My answer is if a train run on it's roof! Would anybody run a train just because it works! My point is I want a train to act & behave like a train. Not just because it works. It's how rails guide the system.
