Garden Ducks: Weed and Pest Management...Plus A LOT...of "NUTRIENCE"

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ducks do double duty in our garden by managing pest and weeds...but the number one reason to have ducks in the garden is for their number two! This is our plan to harvest duck power and put their nutrients where it counts the most.

    Aaron, your 'poop shoot' for the ducks is a great idea. Maybe you could make it a duck tractor by installing wheels on one end so it is easier to pick it up and move the cage along the former flower beds to a new area to be fertilized.

    Thanks a lot 😊, you guys are too kind. so far it is working out fantastic, the ducks are pooping machines, and we cover crop right after them. We are supposed to have better and better soil...right...all this hard work better pay off! 😂

    Put up some owl decoys to help keep predators away. If you free range fowl, raise a little extra for the predators every year.

    Great idea with usage of the ducks I don’t have ducks only chickens but do ducks scratch around like chickens do? Everytime I said to someone that I wanted ducks they said no you don’t they are so dirty & messy what’s your take on ducks? Hope this works for you with all the shortages out there flowers are looking amazing and so are the veggies👍

    I have twelve. I lock them up at night and let them run in my orchard during the day. They do not scratch, but they will put small holes in the ground with their bills. And they are messy. Let them run somewhere that a mess doesn’t matter. They splash water everywhere and their poo is wet and sloppy. This is good stuff for my orchard, so I like their mess making tendencies.

    ducks can be messy, but if you have space, or a way to contain the mess they are fantastic! I mean, dogs can be messy too, and cats...you just have to give the ducks the right environment.

    Great job!!! I love the poop shoot!!! I have ducks. the ducks have a plastic kiddie pool. The larger of the kiddie pools. They swim in the pool and poop it up. I drop a sump pump connected to a hose and I water my whole garden with that water! Been doing it for 7 years. I wash all the veggies in water with vinegar. Never had any problems with getting sick. I dont water my greens with the duck water. Ive learned to use the duck water very sparingly on the tomatoes because you get all leaves and a billion tiny green tomatoes come frost time! I also temper my duck water use on my peppers...the duck water makes the peppers so hot, they are inedible....for me. I typically do the duck water every other watering. Using duck water on your flowers would be absolutely excellent!!! I can go on and on!!! Oh...I also have zero disease and no pests...except squash bugs at the end of the season! Its basically compost tea without the "brewing it" process! I have never bought any ammendments for my garden in all the years Ive been gardening. I have absolutely transformed my soil from high dessert sandy zero life, beige dirt to beautiful black soil crawling with worms. I also put cardboard in every square inch of my garden. The cardboard allows me to water only once a week in the HIGH DESSERT OF NEW MEXICO!!! Dropped my water bill by more than half!

    I'm really interested in the microgreens. I know you have to seed pretty densely. Do you feel it's pretty cost effective way to grow greens?

  • @07negative56

    @07negative56

    You buy seed in bulk. Couple lbs at a time. But micro greens are way worth the effort

    oh, the flavor is fantastic. WE all love them...and they are pretty easy to grow. Our setup costs a little bit...but like 07negative said...you buy in bulk and you have greens all year long.
