Garcia Bend Fishing for Stripers
Took two fishing trips to Garcia Bend to check out a new fishing spot. Worked hard, but it sure paid off. Looks like the big fish are starting to show up in the Sacramento River.

Thank you Frank!
Thank you for sharing with fellow fishermen. I like how you reel into the bite instead of yanking the rod. I will have to try your technique. Tight lines.

YOu should for sure. You will hook into more fish at least that was how it worked out for me. Been using the circle hook for many years now. I very rarely miss hooking them on the bite.
Nice one man.

hey man, never tried soaking bait for stripers at the sac. what size rod do you recommend for someone trying to get into it? was looking at ugly stiks but not sure what would be best for me. thanks in advance
@calloftheoutdoors8941
Ай бұрын
Ugly Stiks are always a good choice. YOu should look for a fishing rod that is at least 8ft long and can handle up to 6oz weight.
Circle hook?

Thank you. I parked at Garcia Bend Park by the tennis courts area and walked to the spot.
What bait works I’ve tried I feel like everything and just need some guidance I use a Carolina rig but no luck
@calloftheoutdoors8941
Ай бұрын
The carolina rig should be fine. What I use is something similar, but they call it a fish finder rig. As far as bait, I use mainly pileworms or bloodworms. I have caught these fish with chicken liver, nightcrawlers, sardines and even ghost shrimp. My best advice is to fish early mornings at sunrise or right before sunset until an hour or two after the sun has set. Good luck!
Guys please..please stop trashing the banks! Help to keep our bank access open to the public. We don’t want to lose it! Help keep our banks clean and fish clean. Put litters in their places.
@calloftheoutdoors8941

I agree with you Lee. We have lost alot of good places to fish due partially to the litter problem. But I also think that the department of reclamation use the "litter" problem as a convenient excuse to shut down places for whatever reason. That's just my opinion.
What kind of hooks do you use? Is is circle hooks? I don't see you setting the hook
@calloftheoutdoors8941

Yep that's it bro. I rarely miss fish when they bite after switching to circle hooks. I 've been using it for many years now. You should try it.

@@calloftheoutdoors8941 What size circle hooks are you using? I have tried to switch to circle hooks many times, but always struggle with them.. I usually use something around a 5/0
@calloftheoutdoors8941
8 күн бұрын
@@Dennis-zn9xk I also use 5/0, but i think up to 7/0 would be fine for stripers. I have another striper video I am editing at the moment where i go more into my setup. I will demonstrate when to set the hook so you can catch more fish. Video should be ready for next Monday. Be on the lookout for it.

how far do you cast out? my line always drifts much with a 6ox weight.
@calloftheoutdoors8941
Ай бұрын
Roland, in this video I was only casting maybe another 10ft past the branch in the water that I was talking about. The water was deep enough so I did not need to cast far from the bank. My suggestion if your line is drifting too much in the current is to use a heavier weight or keep the same weight, but cast closer where flow is not as strong. Make your decision based on where you are getting the bites.
