. I am a fellow bagua practitioner as well, so not hate (Chen taijiquan and Xingyi also) But these applications ignore the *very* important fact that people are likely to attack you with a sharp jab/swings which are then pulled back quickly, so you cannot grab them to work with. With this kind of training it is best to attack someone before they attack you by moving into a grappling situation from the side (typical bauga xd). so punches can be avoided at all costs. Even when the guard is up is your latest chance to do anything realistically - qin-na and strikes can be done *only* when the opponents hits can be controlled.

Hi, I'm Laurence. Not familure with Gao, is that application to the first line the same application in all Gao schools? If I took Gao bagua at one place, would all or most of the application be the same or similar?

Hey Laurence, thanks for reaching out. No, definitely not the same. We are the Yizong Branch of Gao Style Bagua Zhang. That is the branch which developed on Taiwan, while Gao Style developed and was practiced further on the mainland as well. So my teacher Luo Dexiu already was the third generation of teachers in Taiwan. And applications differ from teacher to teacher. That's a natural process. Of course, the basic concepts within should be more or less the same. But individual expression and interpretation changes a lot.

Good that you know the techniques, but you have no base. Without base, no techniques make sense.
