Paul Ferris is a Scottish author and former organised crime figure. Ferris was an enforcer for Glasgow 'Godfather' Arthur Thompson in the early 1980s. Known for his ruthlessness and extreme violence, he rose to a prominent position in the city's criminal underworld.
He served a prison sentence for weapons possession in 1984 and believed he had been betrayed by the Thompsons. In 1991 Thompson's son, Arthur Jr, was shot dead. Ferris was charged with his murder and subsequently found not guilty after what was the longest criminal trial in Scottish history at that time. He was imprisoned again from 1998 to 2002 for trading in firearms and possessing explosives.

Superb interview...very interesting to listen to paul talking about his upbringing...the guy is so clever & interesting...legend 👍
I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with Paul and yourself James. I came from Zena Street in Barmulloch and went to St Philomena's school at the same time as Paul, then on to All Saint's school. I experienced some of what Paul talks about with certain brothers, so I can empathise with Paul in that respect. All the best.
Another cracking one too one James 👍👍came straight here from Noel Smiths Pod. Class mate.
James English cheers for a brilliant interview 👏👏. Some man Paul, thanks for taken 2 and a half hours out your day for sharing your experience man 👍

What an inspiring, well spoken , well educated guy. I’m all for about being in the present and not the past as everyone can change, however every character needs “shaping” through their childhood, adolescent years, teens and throughout life. James you present well mate, always asking very smart and open questions whilst making your guests feel at ease. Love this podcast, came across by chance and hooked now!!!

James really enjoyed that, i could picture the storys in my head, superb mate, great guy to talk to james could listen to paul all day, magic 👍
Great podcast James, I have a lot of respect for Paul Ferris ,he is a very educated man ,and projects himself very well, and fair play to him ,he should be a psychologist ,he could redirect the thoughts and attitudes of our current youth ,based upon his own learned experiences ,I grew up up in the same environment as he did and chose a different path ,but what an ambassador this man is ,good on you 👍👍👍
You know what i love about all these interviews is a, James doesn't interupt, also never ever judge a book by it's cover. Listen to how well spoken and softly spoken he is. These real OG's you would bump into them in the street, make a mistake and end up getting pensioned off.
Fantastic interview James, thanks also to Paul(my mum who knows you Paul, would be delighted!) Kudos all round!

Agree, there’s no ego or narcissism. It’s about the interviewee not him trying to be clever. He’s a great listener, he behaves like a counsellor to the point it makes me think he’s studied counselling skill classes because he uses all active listening techniques counselors use - paraphrases, reflects, clarifies, summarises, sharing, positive encouragers etc. He’s a natural. Very professional - f words aside 🙂.
Cracking Interview thas made my evening a whole lot easier!! Bang On!

Yeah this is the first I've heard of this guy. I was looking for a good podcast to listen to while working. He has had an eventful life and a great story teller. Also liked the part about the 12 week rule of thumb for goal/habit setting. Something we can all consider.
I met ferris a a few years ago, about the time his film was being made. He spoke in a soft manner and was very polite. He never acted hard or moved about as to say "Im a Gangster" If you did not know his history you would never know what he once was, unless you looked into eyes, they told a story of their own. He was severely bullied as a child which explains how he became so relentless. Their was nothing false about him I respected him for that.
Wow. That was amazing. Cheers

Fantastic James. Love your shows sir. Richard in Falkirk.
Highly insightful conversation with a guy who has always fascinated me. I'm particularly interested in his attitude to the things that have gone before. I know for sure that I wouldn't last a second in prison or indeed in the "underworld" for want of a better term. However Mr Ferris' calm demeanor in describing all of this is as fascinating as it is unnerving. Great production. Much respect.
