Honestly, he is most likely better than Dre. What many people don't realize is that Dre uses many co-producers (i.e. Scott Storch, Hitman, etc.) to assist him with production. Whereas, DJ Premier is a solo producer, though.

Im pretty sure he uses a kick with a hard bass drum. He puts reverb on both but more so on the bass drum. this is based upon my experimenting.
