So many current fans lament that Jim Johnson is no longer around, but in my book Bud Carson was THE MAN! I was at the House of Pain game and it is one of the greatest moments of my life. Got into a scuffle with a bunch of Oiler fans ( I was wearing my Eagles Jersey ) and ended up on camera as the game was in the progress. BTW, #48 Wes Hopkins is my all time favorite Eagle. Played safety but hit you with a horrific viciousness. Reminds me of Jack Lambert with some hits in this game.

THIS was in my humble opinion the greatest one year Defense of alltime....you can have the Purple People Eaters, the Doomsday, the Fearsome Foursome and the great Iron Curtain....for this one year, NO D was better....if you recall they lost Cunningham in the first game...McMahon lasted about two more and then it was a parade of waiver wire rejects...they had NO offense...nothing, nada, zilch zero and the D was on the field the whole damn game....but they STILL won 10 games and if they would have made the playoffs I have no doubt they would have won the SB....they DESTROYED teams....what they did to that "run and shoot" Houston team on that Monday night was unbelievable....I think they put out three of their Wideouts...THAT was the REAL "Bodybag" game.....Once Bud Carson got ahold of that D and installed a "sane" defensive system they were just scary.....people still think Buddy Ryan was the greatest, but his system was outmoded and he was incompetant, calling zero blitzes on almost every play was insane and RYAN is the reason they never won a playoff game...those teams SHOULD have won AT LEAST TWO SBs! This 91 team would have won 14 games and the SB EASILY if Randall doesnt get hurt....such a shame....

@@daveduffy2823 Buddy was there for 2 years and won the division after the team was garbage like a decade just like the current Cowboys, they were a mess, all talk. Buddy turned that Eagles team into a monster in a division with 2 SB Champs, and had them winning 10-11 games in a stacked division the Giants and the Redskins of the 80s. Not Kotite. Not Carson. Buddy picked them players. Not Carson. Buddy should have fired kotite, hired Carson, and had more time. This coaching turnover is a joke, when they trend up, YOU KEEP THE COACH, when they go 4-12 to 3-13 you make a change, not when they are making the playoffs and winning the division every year. Not Norman Braman that idiot fired Buddy and it became a shitfest, like the current Cowboys and Jerry Jones. Total joke until Lurie bought the team and hired Andy Reid, and they owned the division, pretty much since. The Giants got a few and the Cowboys 1 or 2, but the Eagles got like 12 they been to a few SB they been to 6 NFC Championships, they won a SB under Lurie all in past 20+ years, SINCE Cheapskate Norman Braman sold the team. I dont think the Redskins got 1 since Snyder bought that team. Shows you what Ownership means. And Robert Kraft, he is willing to cheat, film other teams, steal other teams plays, pay all the fines when they get caught and keep cheating in 2019 then visit a washy washy afterwards. BC Roger Goodell allows it to happen over and over and over.

Gang Green Defense, championship caliber defense, but no championships, so sad, maybe.

Three major factors cost the Eagles a chance to get to the Super Bowl during those glory years between 1988-to-1994. 1. The firing of Buddy Ryan. 2. The unfortunate and sad death of Jerome Brown. 3. The Philly offense just didn't know how to score during the playoffs. I know this is about the greatness of the Eagles defense. But the Dallas Cowboys officially put that defense out to pasture during the 1992 playoffs. From all of the years, the Philadelphia Eagles pounded the Dallas Cowboys from '89-to-'92, that 1992 Dallas Cowboys team practically submitted that Eagles defense in the 1992 Divisional Playoffs.

Eagles had a great year in 1991.I think they would have been 12-4 if Randall Cunningham didn't get injured.Nobody was not going to touch the 1991Redskins no matter if Cunningham was there. The Eagles would might made it to the NFC title game at the Redskins but the Washington Redskins would have still won.

I think the Eagles would've been 14-2. Your right about that Washington team though. They started 11-0 that year. Clearly the best team

No Bubby Brister wasn't there yet. This year the reigning MVP Randall Cunningham had a torn ACL in the 1st game. His backup was Jim McMahon of the Bears and he was always hurt. He missed 5 games. They had 3rd string quarterbacks like Pat Ryan & a rookie & some other dude. The Eagles only lost 1 game that Jim McMahon played. Those 3rd string bums lost every game

Meanwhile the only way you get to relive a Cowboys Superbowl victory is if you went in your grandparents basement and search for their VHS tapes and find a VCR that actually works good luck hooking it up to your TV.

As an Eagles fan I hate to say it but you're right, those Eagles players talked a lot of trash but couldn't back it up on the field. They totally choked in big games and in crucial situations. That Eagles team wasn't even close to a Super Bowl. They had no offensive line, no running game, average wide receivers, and terrible head coaches with Buddy Ryan and Rich Kotex. 1-4 all time in the playoffs with that Gang Green defense. Doesn't sound like a great team to me
