    Colonial Twilight is great for solo if you find running the AI too tedious. It's two player.

    My favourite COIN is Falling Sky - due to simplified control (no support) and no LoC / different types of spaces it's way simpler. I find it really easy to solo without bots.

    I’ve been interested in that one, mainly for the theme, but you’re right, not tracking support is big. Pendragon does that too, though in that case you have to manage a billion little gold cubes :)

    @@OneStopCoopShop plus you also need to manage a lot of different troop types and a detailed battle sequence. I've introduced my own little take on battles in COIN - to slightly randomize losses I roll D6/hit: each 1 causes no loss, 2-5 cause 1 loss normally, 6 causes 2 losses.

    Awesome Michael. I am surprised at the A.I. Even with the “new and improved” card system, seemed only a little helpful. They’ve added this to Fire in the lake as well. I’ll take a look at the play through and see what it is you’re talking about. I have Liberty or Death and haven’t tried it yet. (Shelf of Shame). I’m now hoping for this card system to help that game. But from what you’re saying.... may not help as much as we’d like it to?! Great 5 n5 again. Thanks!!

    It’s better without a doubt, for variety of actions and for figuring out what the AI does, but yeah, it doesn’t revolutionize the experience or anything

    Looks very interesting, the theme sounds fascinating. I wonder if there's someone working on implementing the AI as a computer program, like some people did with previous COINs or Labyrinth. Less likely maybe, since this card system would probably be more complicated to program and for a lesser gain.

  • @OneStopCoopShop

    Wait, there are automation programs for some COINS?? But do you have to input every units movement and every counter. In that case I’m not sure I’d like it more ;)

    @@OneStopCoopShop There is definitely one for Labyrinth, it saved the game for me. And I remember seeing something about Fire in the Lake. But yes, they need to be made aware of the board state. In Labyrinth it's simple because every action involves playing a card, so you just input the card number and if there's a decision involved it'll ask for additional info. Not super fast, still way better than working through those flowcharts and tables :)

    Great review, one day I'll get a COIN game, maybe when my kids have grown up and left the house and I'm retired, living on my own in a hole in the ground... then maybe I'll have the time and concentration to run the AI :) At the moment I'm figuring out the AI for Paladins of the West Kingdom, is that on your radar at all for a playthrough?

    That's my biggest problem with COIN games how they refuse to make them more accessible. I really don't understand why they must hold on to certain things? Just look at the card at 3:37. "'Any guerrillas in 2-pop spaces with no unrest'". It's just not fun to parse out what the hell that means and why does it always have to be so heavy on text. Why can't it just be intuitive iconography? COIN systems are amazing and I wish we would see more attempts to bring this system to gamers. Ghandi is the 9th game in the COIN system and still it I feel they completely refuse to go down that route. As it stands only Root tried to re-package and bring the COIN experience to people. Why does GMT itself not try this though?

  • @OneStopCoopShop

    @OneStopCoopShop

    Yeah, I’ve been thinking about Root versus COIN myself quite a bit. Clearly Root is a more intuitive and easy to learn system. But MAN do I love the event card mechanic. Let’s get a version of that in Root 2.0, lol

  • @ElParoach

    @ElParoach

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think if you are comparing it to Root, the difference is one trying to simulate a historical period when the other one trying to intentionally making it accessible without having to tied with anything or simulate anything, and I think they even intentionally making it cartoony to reach that goal (it is not a fact, only my observation, so CMIIW). I haven't played Gandhi but from my small experience with Pendragon, I think I can intuitively understand the AI card on 3:37. My opinion might be not that valid, as I only start the tutorial section of Pendragon 2 days ago (I survived! LOL), it is my first COIN and also my first wargame in general, I played Root and a lot of heavy euro though. It is not easy for sure, but I can stand it so far and I really really enjoy my time with it, I felt that I am really immersed into the conflict very much, even at the tutorial stage, but who knows how will it be if they decided to make it more simple and streamlined.
