    May I give you a tip on shooting a springer? Try not to touch it, except for squeezing the trigger, (A lighter trigger pull is nice when you are not touching the gun, and you can do that with a longer screw easily with that gun. It is the little Phillip's screw that is bottomed out on the head, right behind the trigger). You probably already hold the gun lightly, but to add, do not press your face or shoulder on the butt stock, (it takes practice to remember). I push the gun from my face and shoulder before I pull the trigger, just barely touching the stock, which is a long lever actually. Just let the gun rest on your hands like it is suspended by 2 strings, and try to pull the trigger with out moving the gun. When you get used to it, your 50 yard groups will be bottle caps,---maybe even to 80 yards on a bag. The idea is, the gun is moving before the pellet leaves the barrel, so if different forces are on the stock, the muzzle will not be in the same place when the pellet leaves it because the force on the stock is dampening the vibration of the gun inconsistantly. If you can hold it tightly the same every time, that wold work to,---but it is just easier to repeat zero force on the stock.

    If you like head shots, the H&N Hornet shoots as well in that gun as any domed pellet I have used. The metal tip won't bounce off a skull as easily, and if you are good at shooting springers, it is an 80 yard set up. I was amazed a tipped pellet files so well, but it does. I just bought 1,200 of them :)

    Good to know, helps sell me on the higher price point. I like the powerflight by crossman in .22 and the hades. The rocket is great at close ranges. The powerflight is great when you need to punch through a lot of flesh/bone as the (maybe zinc) pellet is a lot harder than lead. I’ve even shot it through a folding metal chair at 20 yds and it barley deformed.

    Would be interesting to see 1” pine test done. Put 2 boards back to back at about 6 feet and see what happens. The accuracy of the magnum is very impressive. I think 1” pine with a layer of Upholstery leather would give you a pretty good analog for punching through medium size game skull. I’ve done this test with 2 layers of leather and 2 pine boards at 50 yds and got pass through with a 25 cal pcp making about 47 fpe. Would be interesting to see what the mag can do.

    I saw this video about 4 months ago. It made me ended up buying myself a Gamo Swarm Magnum 10x Gen2 .22 pellet rifle too...it is really strong. But I get way more penetrating power with the Crosman Red Flight Penetrators...I bet if you would do a review with those pellets you will see how much more power this gun really has. It's like going from a regular round to a plus p. I shoot a torch propane can. The long blue ones. Those pellets go through and leave a big dent on the other side. That thing is really hard too. The only thing with the Red Flight Penetrators is that you have to remove the mag, cock the gun...lift the barrel up a little and load that pellet manually and then pull it back so the red stuff push the pellet in, then lock the barrel. It's too long to go in the mag. Manual insertion only. Would be nice to see you do a video with it shooting that cow skull. Those pellets are polymer I guess. Hard...like a zinc like material.

    On a live animal with skin and blood playing a role on deflection it is critical you get a square shot on the skull , I think even a 12 foot pound .177 would penetrate through with no problem on any of these skulls . Critical to know the location of the brain on any head shot you take and distance you are shooting , the closer the better with so little kinetic energy on these springers .

  • @HuntShootLive

    @Charles Leggett The Diana 250 is advertised as shooting a .22 cal. pellet around 740 fps. I chronographed the magnum at around 900 fps with a 14.3 grain pellet and the Whisper around 650 fps with the same pellet. So, if their advertised speed is accurate, it should preform similar to or a little better than the Whisper. I have a few videos out with the Whisper and just released a skull test with it tonight. They are very good shooters and their light weight what makes them more desirable than other airguns on the market, however I am worried about one feature in Gamo rifles and that is the barrel lock being made of plastic including the chisel detent (the lock pin), basically the barrel is secured in its place by a plastic lock , I wonder after thousands of shots how would the rifle hold ?!!!!

    Thanks for sharing the video!!! Id love to have seen a point of comparison. Like including one of the average Gamo Swarm models in .22 to see just what that bump up to magnum gets you. I personally went back and fourth between the Magnum and Viper (both in .22). My reasoning is a big reason is finding a cheap and fun and quiet to shoot ALTERNATE to .22LR and the magnum seemed to just come too close to being the same thing on most fronts. Hope I choose right and don't loose too much substantial penetration having gone down from the Magnum to the Viper. Definitely liked the magnums looks better!! Anyway if anyone stuck thru my ramble God Bless you! lol Summary: would love to see a penetration (skull?) test between Standard velocities Gamo Swarm (like Viper), and the magnum and even throw in a .22lr for real comparison though so many choices velocities etc with .22lr it would likely be tough to choose your stand-in to represent the LR :p. If you are really feeling scientifically ambitious, adding in pellet gun comparisons of .17 and .25 (where applicable). Cheers and may God Bless you, your channel and extend to those of you here in comments :)

    Not sure what dried skull tests achieve? I used a Sheridan model C pumper way back in the day to dispatch coyotes and foxes that I trapped in the city using 4 or 5 pumps. Using the 15.1gr .20cal "bantam" straight walled pellets, which looked like slugs. Those pellets had a lot of antinomy added, so they didn't expand much. They had no issues humanely dropping coyotes, and red fox's. Albeit around 10 yards. But very effective.

    A dried empty skull is completely different from the skull of a living animal. How do we correlate the penetration from your tests when adding fur, flesh and a skull that is not brittle? Thanks.

  • @HuntShootLive

    @HuntShootLive

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Axion You are free to draw whatever you wish from the test. I wouldn’t shoot any of those animals with a pellet rifle because I have a 5.56 that I predator hunt with and I won’t ever be shooting an angus cow with anything. The test was to see if it would do it and it did. Very unexpected in my opinion. The magnum is a potent break barrel pellet rifle. I won’t be hunting those animals with it but was enjoyable and informative to show that it is a powerful pellet rifle. Shooting boards is not comparable penetration to animals either but people do it all the time.

With their own brand alloy pellet I had the .177 go through a book a subsonic .22lr and a .38 special couldn’t make it through on a single shot.

    Good tests. However, for me they aren't needed - last summer a good friend of mine (who lives in a village near my hometown) shot two badgers with cal. 22 Diana N-TEC 34 (I also happen to have this gun) from a distance of about 20 yards. Two copper-plated slugs (made by Norica, weight unknown), two head-shots, two clean kills. After the first one had been shot, the second one came to see what is going on with his buddy. Poor beasts were harassing my friend's orchard situated at the corner of his huge back yard (next to the vast sunflower field) where they entered by digging deep and long tunnels. The guy climbed on a tall walnut tree and after a few days during which he had a few unsuccessful sessions, took them from up there. edit: I just found these slugs on the Internet - their weight is 28 grains. Too bad they are rarely seen on shelves here in Serbia (my friend bought them in Hungary). Very first time I see them I'm gonna purchase hundreds of them...

    Cordial saludo.
