Ya consoles that are basically a skin are lame but when they actually change things like that is when special editions are pretty cool. Like the Pikachu N64 with a PokeBall power switch and Pikachu's foot as the reset button and his cheeks light up when the power is on - that's cool. I'm sure there are some other cool special editions like that too.

Crazy to think how quality of limited edition designs on Switch has degraded. Kinda wish that Nintendo would keep up with ambitious skins like they did back then

Pink Lighter's joke was pretty bad and unnecessary (with all respect, but truth be told), but I get why he did this in the first place.

That’s the issue with rare consoles, you can’t use them or you’ll ruin their value

@@bahamut9203 Also, the price of groceries has skyrocketed during the pandemic. Don't expect it to ever fully return to pre-pandemic levels, because prices never do once they stay high for awhile. Even if it was initially solely due to economic reasons and not greed, big business will make it about greed. I suggest that, rather than subsisting on groceries from the store, we subsist on the flesh of the wealthy.

I believe a few of the special edition ones did, my buddies forza special edition xbox one has a different start up and shut down sound. It's not a completely different design it looks exactly like a stock xbox one

I had a GOW3 360 that had custom sound effects for power on and disk tray too. More consoles need to do cool shit like that.

What about the Panasonic GameCube? Before the GameCube had the small disks, Nintendo intended to partner with Panasonic to have DVD’s as the game disks, a limited amount of the consoles managed to get out to mainstream collectors.

look at all those amazing limited consoles... and then there's the Gray Switch that just says "Thunderbolt & Pokemon", i do like the black leather Mew Plushie

These are awesome!! Haven't heard of most of these!

There's a limited edition gamecube that's colored and decorated like the mobile suits Char Aznable used in the original mobile suit gundam. It's not super rare but a complete set will cost upwards of $550-$600. I just thought it was cool.

There’s a couple of EXTREMELY rare systems that was produced for official Nintendo contests in Scandinavia as well, that could be fun to hear your take on. There’s 4 different Animal Crossing Nintendo DS systems, one for each season, that was given out to 4 lucky winners through the Scandinavian Club Nintendo magazine. There was also a unique Luigi’s Mansion Gamecube which they only made 1 of, signed by Miyamoto himself. It has a unique design with Luigi and a Boo on the top.

I had no idea the Titanfall console was so rare! I saw at least 2 of them traded in when I worked at GameStop.

Ngl, I had the frosted pink ds lite that had the paw pint on it. I guess it was a nintendogs edition since it came with a copy of the game. I always thought it was a really cool color, like a darker metallic pinkish color, even if ppl made fun of me for having a pink DS I never saw another one on the streets.

I think it's on Console Variations if you look it up. It was made for another N-Zone competition. There was one made but it has never been recovered.

One contest variation that I've been searching for FOREVER is a Mass Effect 2 branded Xbox Kinect, IIRC there were seven blue Paragon branded Kinects and seven red Renegade branded Kinects. Don't even remember what you had to do for the contest but I keep hoping they will pop up on eBay at some point. At one point there was a Cereberus Elite edition of ME2 that came in like a haliburton case that was on eBay but that's been years ago and I have no idea what the story on that was.

If anything that has ever come to mocking how collecting can be ridiculous is the Malibu stacy episode on the simpsons, when Lisa makes her own version and then to compete with her toy , the makers that helped make her figure a reality, release an already existing figure but with an extra accessory , a hat , same figure , just a new hat, and these collectors went bat shit crazy for it. They would've probably pay hundreds of dollars just like these collectors would for an already existing system but with just extra features and or skin.

i want neof the solid chrome panasonic gamecubes that could play actual DVD's as well as gamecube games.

They don’t make many rare consoles. I know they had a Monster Hunter World ps4 that I really wanted, but never got 😭

Im surprised the PAL sonic 10th anniversary Dreamcast wasn't included here, there were only 50 of them. The jordan F1 team PlayStation 1 was another rare console

I use to have a rare fat ps2 automobile collectors edition it was yellow. Unfortunately was stolen from me but I still have the tray it said in to prove I had it.

I find it so lame when there is a rare console variant that is a custom job of which there exists only one or two... Like yeah if I painted my own switch it would be a one of a kind console too.

Red pokemon gameboy micro and the Minish Cap GBA-SP are the two rarest consoles I know of, not a bad list though.

Soo all you need to do is be someone who works at a game company and paint a console and host a contest to win it to make it a "1 of a kind" variant. Otherwise I too could paint my GameCube to have an MTV or Incredibles look and then there's more of them in circulation.
