Gaming, Memories & Mental Health

Ойындар

Totally different video from me today guys, wanted to chat about gaming and mental health. Had an amazing time making the custom wrestler royal rumble video in January but then suffered a massive low.
It shocked me as to how making that video affected me and also the memories that it stirred up from the times when my brother and I all used to play games together.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject guys as this must happen to everyone.
All the best guys, thanks for the support and watching as always.

Thanks for the kind words bud, really appreciate that I really do. As a channel and person, I love to keep up to date with I really appreciate the kind words in your comment. I'm in a much better frame of mind since recording this video as I needed to get this off my chest and share in a way that I felt comfortable with. Good video man honesty is always the best approach, completely understandable, nostalgia and past experiences can be cognitively complex especially while remembering loved ones. Try stay positive and be glad it happened rather than it ending, I'm sure your family who have passed live on through your memories an values they had you still hold dear.☘ Look after yourselves and eachother as best you can.🌅

Losing not one but two brothers must left a massive emotional hole that you can ignore for a while, but memories and nostalgia will force you to face the music in the end. Which is necessary and good and I suppose games will be a great conduit for bringing those memories to the front. I think it's good to talk about these things because how else is everyone else going to know what is 'normal' when dealing with heavy stuff like this. Brave move and I hope it's helped you and it will help others.

Nice video mate. Brave, as always. As you say, sometimes something/ anything can trigger a wave of memories and emotions. I am sorry to hear, that the video brought you up and then down. Strange, how the mind works. I don't think that there is a right or wrong way of dealing with the past and we all need to find our own bumpy path, through it. A mere glance at your life, would show anyone that at that, you have knocked it out of the park. You always know where I am mate. Outside your window, in the bushes.

Hi mate, hope that you are feeling better and had a great birthday yesterday. The Royal Rumble video really meant a lot to me mate as we all got together and properly re-lived the past. It was just through the editing that I got thinking about how much time has passed and how things like these hold games will allow me to keep memories of them alive forever whilst also having fun with you guys. As you say we all find our own path mate and we all fall at some point. The main thing is that I have amazing family, friends and you (ha ha) around me to keep me smiling and in a great state of mind. I should just head out to the front garden and find you in the bushes and tell you this in person lol. Cheers mate, your friendship over the last 30 odd years really means a lot to me.

Really sorry to hear about the loss of your brothers. Can relate to what you are saying. Is strange how the things you think will take you back to a happy time can instead pull up different emotions of sadness and loss instead. It is a nice way of remembering your brothers by doing something you did together though. Speaking about it to others and in this video will help as I'm sure you will get a lot of messages of support. Sometimes professionals can really help if you feel up to it. Hope you are doing ok.

Fair play for talking about this dude. Games have absolutely been linked to mental health for me at times. They've helped me thru hard times for sure. Being able to escape into another world for a few hours when your real world is too much to handle, it's a welcome distraction. Conversely it's important to guard against allowing this escapism to negatively affect your life, like stopping you from sorting your shit out.

Sorry to hear about your brother's and you've not been feeling so good. It can be the most innocuous of things that remind you of people or events in your life that take you back to painful times. It can be tough to deal with at times and can be hard to shake off. I know I can struggle at times. Traumatic events will be something that will always be in the brain somewhere I guess but hopefully happier thoughts and mindset soon returns. Hope that talking about it helps you out and you feel better soon. All the best mate 👍

Hi Sean, hope you are well mate. This is a very touching video, so sorry to hear about the loss of your brothers. Wether it be music, film or games, it is important and comforting to find these moments to take us back to the times we had and shared with others. Also, touching on mental health, I strongly believe that gaming can ease myself from the worries of work and anything else that life throws at me. I like to escape in my games and immerse myself, if even for a little while, it is important to find time for yourself. Especially because I am pretty shy and dont talk to others about my feelings, gaming just lets me escape 🙂 This is a very important video and one thatbyou will look back on and say "yep, I am happy that I recorded that" Take care man ✌

Might feel silly to talk about but it's a brave thing to talk about mate and I'm glad you have so many good memories with your brothers. Having those feelings isn't a bad thing and you got to embrace the bad feelings sometimes and not bottle it up, seems like you have it under control for now but if you're ever feeling overwhelmed by it there is no harm in having a chat with a professional, they've got some really good advice on how to look after your head. We've all had to talk to someone. If you ever need a chat then feel free to drop me a message 👍

Hi Dan, great to see a comment from you mate and hope that your keeping safe and well. Think that as I suggested in this video its all just caught up with me and that the Royal Rumble video pushed me over the edge. A lot has changed that used to help me keep on top of the feelings in the football league and charity pitch days and so on are now not really in my life. I'm returning to the pitch days next year but I needed to just take a break as I wasn't in a great place when Phil wanted to push ahead with the Sellhurst Park game. Games, Music, smells, certain times of the year like say Christmas can bring back some fantastic fun memories but they can also remind you of also the sad times I've mentioned on my channel that one particular game brings back memories of my mother and I also get sad Elite C64 another game Rambo also on the C64 reminds me so much of the fun times with my friend Kenny but he unfortunately died when he was 19 I still fill up when I hear the loading music and I cry every Christmas for the farther I ost when I was 10 Your not human if you don't get these feelings occasionally I think the mental health side is when you start thinking about it too much and it brings you down all the time I also have a wife and a daughter that suffer from Mental Health issues my wife worries about everyone and she says it's her job to do so which is not correct, my daughter who also attempted suicide 3 years ago is still having counselling but mentally is not in the right place and social media certainly did not help her and neither did the friends she thought she had when in fact they were back stabbing people. I think your a little like me Sean you bottle it up because you have to because your the rock and you try to be there for the people you love but every now and then you have to let your emotions out, think of it like a pressure valve you need to let a little steam out every now and then otherwise your gonna blow up. Mental Health is like a glass of water you pick it up and hold it keep it raised for a short time no issues it's good to think things over but hold the glass of water for too long your arm will go numb and ache, just like over thinking and worrying all the time. JUST put the glass down. Your never on your own pal and it's good to get this off your chest stay safe and take care.

I am not really good with advice or support for mental health issues. While I sympathize and I suffer with depression for most of my life, I am also not exactly "right" up there to give good advice. In general I have found games (and movies/tv shows) to be very helpful to me to either improve my mood or make me feel less shit. Not always, but often enough to be worth trying. As for the very specific connection between a game and people I lost...the only thing I can think of is a game I gave to my father about 10 years ago, him not being a gamer at all. It was one of those side scrolling bike riding games where you had to stay on your bike to finish the course. With exaggerated physics etc. For some reason that's the only game he ever liked. Ever since he died in 2018 I came across similar games while browsing online shops etc and just found myself actively avoiding even looking at the screenshots, even though these games would never interest me no matter what. Weird. Have a nice weekend and if you ever want to contact me please feel free through twitter or instagram or twitch (same name as here). I will definitely not be able to help you, but I can listen to you.
