I did thought it was weird how many articles who tried to analyze the "Flappy bird phenomenon", who completely missed KZreadrs influence as a factor. Though I think you may have given me a bit too much credit in this video for it. ;P Still... love the videos! Keep it up! - (the) Pewds

Change is a human habit, when would such change occur is a mystery, just like anything else future-related. Regardless, if Pewds were to leave KZread forever, which I doubt for the moment, could occur but not now, KZread would definitely loose an outstanding money leakout, Pewds could still refuge on his website. From that point on Many subscribers would go to his site and others would start following other gamers such as Markiplier, jacksepticeye, Yamimash and Smosh Games.

  • @Benny-Arts

    @Benny-Arts

    9 жыл бұрын

Martín Alderotti i agree until "and others would start following". just because you are subbed to pewds doesnt limit you to just him. i can guarantee 1/2 of his fanbase is subscribed to at least one of them if not more. probably more since pewds sometimes interacts with them, giving them advertising to his fans the other half (but not discluding the above half) would be subbed to many more less popular channels.

As an SEO and Marketing guy I can tell you that your theory is absolutely right! What people and companies (like Nintendo) don't realize is that Social Media engagement doesn't revolve around them, but around "Thought Leaders" and communities. A non gaming example is Adobe. Terry White and Scott Kelby tell Photographers what the new Photoshop features are and what Cameras they should buy. Not Adobe, Not Nikon, Not Canon, these high profile Users whose opinion the community respects. By not letting KZreadrs share information with their following without a penalty, without letting gamers easily stream their gameplay they are letting their product just be static media, like a Newspaper and we see how well that worked out! Social Media has changed the way we think, communicate, behave and buy. And companies that don't embrace that and capitalize on it will be left behind. I'm disappointed that an innovative company like Nintendo is so stuck in a traditional approach to marketing their products that they are punishing their fans. Even Andre over at Black Nerd Comedy got flagged for video Nintendo ACTUALLY ASKED HIM TO DO! Its insane when you think about it. Protecting your intellectual property is all well and good, but not when you shoot yourself in the foot by not letting people sell it for you for FREE. But hey, that's just a Theory...

Rookie Buttle It's different for everyone. Autism is too broad to use such an example. Someone can either be functional enough to be around others at school, while some have to be in a special class. A lot of times Autism isn't just cominh over your fear, it's an actual (sometimes) severe social disorder.

uh actually minecraft was EXACTLY what I wanted. All I wanted since I was a kid was to be able to build my own WORLD, I used to make a lot of notes about how to make a game like this. Then one day long after I'd given up, minecraft shows up and fulfills my childhood dream. I'm still pretty happy most people share that dream now, even if it results in a lot of terrible clones. ;v Also someone out there has to want what those indies make. They make the games THEY want to play, and sometimes is resonates with a lot of other people...and when that happens I am always happy because I know how nice it is when someone finds their niche. (even if their niche is super meat boy... >_> everyone deserves to feel like they're in a valid and current group.)

This is very interesting. Everyone is talking about Fallout 4 being the best game ever. I saw some gameplay and thought of it as an average game. But my friends are so passionate about the game that it makes me angry, angry that they think this game is soooo amazing. I'm going to get the game at Christmas to try it out. I hope I will understand my friends passion for the game. Otherwise, I think it's overrated.

Unlike most Game Theory episodes, this one actually blew my friggin mind. The logic is sound, the numbers add up, and if you are right Mat, you just established a new paradigm in game marketing. Well, "new," since popularity through media sharing nothing new, but this would mean the most logical trend for game marketing now would be to deliver copies directly for innovators. +Joshua Mayes I greatly respect Nintendo for trying to make it under their own strength. setting new trends and taking risks that will undoubtedly flop I mean Oceania of time I have litterly never heard of it or ever played a Zelda game before (partly because I like to stay outside of the trends even if it is good. Pic men? I played Overlord and it was awesome . Cod ? I played Supreme Commander and it was a blast of fun challenging smart game play . A moment of silence for these great and inovative games) but they are really shooting them selves in the foot as they need the media. P.S we need a Over lord 3 and a Supreme Commander 3 they are great games I had to introduce to my friends and discover by chance .

+Fionn Krahforst Pewds' channel quality has really dipped over the last couple years. Hardly ever a new let's play these days, videos are getting way shorter, most of the videos are just random little flash games that last all of about 20 seconds or a half dozen different types of vlogs, & when he finally does start a bigger series, the videos are always an hour or two long, so a lot of folks like myself don't want to sit through them. Granted, a lot of gaming channels are going similar ways these days, but I really first noticed it with Pewdie, & it still seems the worst with his channel.

My main theory was that Nintendo weren't very good at getting the word out of what the Wii U is and what it's capable of. When it was released, no one I talked to knew that it was a new Nintendo console, they just thought it was an add-on like the motion plus. Also, I don't think I've ever seen an ad on TV for Wind Waker HD, Monster Hunter Ultimate or even SM3DW. They're advertising is poor and the copyright stuff is only making things worse.

One thing that pisses me off, is that these people that make these stupid one off apps, like Flappy Bird, are making thousands of dollars a day, while people that actually do stuff to help the world, like police officers, firefighters, doctors, teachers, researchers, engineers, astronauts, plumbers, electricians, IT guys, and more, are making a fraction of that. Why the hell does the world have to work this way?

    10 жыл бұрын

That one off app was something that was creative and that not many people could have done (just look at the Flappy Bird spin offs). It makes money because its easy to get, fast and perfectly suited for its purpose People like police officers and doctors aren't people that provide something that others can't. Not to downplay the roles of these people, but helping people isn't as profitable financially as entertaining them and it really shouldn't be. Doctors and such tend to be driven by a need to help people rather than money, look at doctors without borders or the people that work for charities, so they would do a better job than some guy sitting at a desk waiting for a pay-cheque.

You say that Game of Thrones has 5b/e (boobs per episode) while Game Theory only has 1.7b/e, but since you have different length episodes, that's an inaccurate comparison. According to Wikipedia, Game of Thrones episodes run 51-61 minutes. Let's just say on average they run 56 minutes. Game Theory episodes on the other hand, only run for about 12 minutes. If you convert the numbers into boobs per hour using those numbers, Game of Thrones has about 5.4b/h while Game Theory has 8.5b/h. So you actually come out on top!

This is why it's so important for gamers to vote with their wallets especially for games that are lesser known and their future depends on actual sales. Don't pirate games that you want to support. Don't buy niche titles and indie games in used form. SUPPORT what you love, instead of treating unique games like they will always come. They won't. The only types of games that have a future with any sense of ease are these mega franchises with a lot of hype behind them. Let's support games that should be more popular than they are.

  • @GameLifeBalance

Great video. Your conclusion could have also been supported in the very similar example of how Napster actually *increased* album sales at the peak of its popularity from 1999-2001, and album sales dropped 5-10% the year after it disappeared. Many studies have shown that people "stealing" intellectual property has often ended up with increased sales numbers for those properties.

I don't want to give the impression that I think I'm better than everyone else, but I personally tend to go against these trends, most times purposefully. It might be trust issues or something but when people say "this new game is so sick" I tend to not listen to them until I can evaluate it myself. I haven't bought COD for years, never downloaded flappy bird, never bought GTA, and so on. I'm not some hipster who doesn't like whats popular and purposefully tries to seek out the most obscure shit out there, but I do tend to gravitate towards games that don't always get a ton of attention like Guilty Gear Xrd. I think people need to start trying to all be innovators rather than followers, because most of these things that are popular really shouldn't be.

So I started to think like that... for a while... and then I left... which is when I realized that all the people who fight about game libraries and immersive gameplay are idiots. Jeez, Pokemon FireRed was innovative... but I love the Playstation again.

Maybe that instinct is present in something outside the games scope, idunno.. Also, about being an innovator, ain't that a discouraging factor - to know that people wouldn't "get" it?? Sometimes it seems that there are no people to innovate For..

Of course everyone has their own taste in games, being popular doesn't mean that its popular because it's good. There are many games that don't get popular, but are so much better than the popular shit out there. What matters most for all products is publicity, and if they get good publicity the product sometimes skyrockets in sales.

Poignant and reasonable. Rare to see when people tackle this topic. It's not hard to understand popular people make popular trends, whether or not they care to own up to it. *****, regardless how he thinks otherwise, had a lot to do with the growing popularity of the game. He still gains a lot of traction today, and I think it's safe to say it'll never stop anytime soon. But no matter what, whenever you see ol' Felix play anything on his channel, you can know for certain some web pages are gonna crash from the amount of traffic.

yup all it takes is for pewdiepie to say subscribe to "random youtube channel" and BAM the next day your living off of youtube money with 2 million subscriber minimum even if your channel sucks like mine

hes a big deal....? I mean yeah, he has 35 million subs but WHO CARES? If pewds hadn't uploaded that amnesia video who would be setting trends? Who would be popular? Pewds inspires ALOT of people to play horror games and gmod and crap but what would those 35 million do without his holy guidance which is probably what most of the "bros" call it...

XenoBlade Fan2011 Well, that's the thing. With as much social and media influence that he has, like him or hate him, he's _going_ to cause a publicity spike. It's not even uncommon that for some of the games he recommends, the sites hosting them completely crash.

Da' Melon Still, hes an all powerful god on the internet and everyone follows him to every game he plays, regardless of what genre it is or how badly rated it is, everyone plays it and rates 5 stars because pewds played this and now it's 35 million people favourite game. I'm just saying if he stopped posting videos, what would people do? It's like 35 million sheep without a shepard, lost and afraid. That's my point...

I'm sorry, Mat, you're right in everything in that theory, with exception of one thing: The Impossible Quiz was already popular before Pewds was even big. I remember the kids on my high school playing them all over lunch breaks and library times and classroom slack offs and homerooms before I even heard of Pewds, and anyways, that was five years ago.

Guardian Eris just because pewdiepie makes a video on something, does not mean it isnt already very well known. The point is that if something is not well known and he does something with it, than it should get more success due to that chain reaction of "adopters" from the video

Chris No they won't; Nintendo has stopped flagging gameplay videos and is cooperating with KZread for MKTV. Any flagging happening now, is due to KZread's flagging system being stupid, like it did when tons of gaming videos, not just Nintendo vids, kept getting flagged a year or so back.

smashbrolink I meant "claim" as in you can't monetize it / they will monetize it FOR you, but keep all the ad revenue. You can upload your MK gameplay, no problem, but you can't monetize it for yourself. At least that's what I've heard. I'd love to be wrong here, so if anyone has any proof that they'll actually let you do what you want with your videos, please. (I don't care that much personally, cause I'm not really a content creator here, but I'd love to see more Nintendo games from the KZread folks that I'm subscribed to)

Yes, in fact, why does JCPenny tell me they have clothes for sale, or why does my Mom tell me vegetables are healthy for me. I'm so smart and capable and knowing because I already know things that people had to tell me in the first place so people should stop doing it so that crucial information can be spread through asanine expectation systems.

Okay, I know this is a very old video, but I just wanted to say thanks for the info. Even being a game developer and also a gamer (well, if retro emulators count) I never thought of it like this.
