Yes from the start. Dutch started losing his shit in the beginning of the game after the boat heist, and going by some dialogue long before that. Dutch van der Linde was a huge hypocrite, as Milton rightly pointed out when he came to camp. We see the story through Arthur's POV, and he sees Dutch almost as a father figure who he followed with some occasional grumbling, but without much questioning. I think Dutch was was nothing more than a common robber and cutthroat who was good at presenting himself and making speeches, however much he might have thought of himself as a modern Robin Hood, and his insanity and hypocrisy is really reflective of the story and themes of the game overall. Micah was already whispering in his ear at this point, too, as some dialogue suggests the boat heist was his idea all along.

Sadie not being hunted by John has 2 explanations. From a developer perspective, she wasn’t designed From a lore standpoint. She was a nobody, the Pinkerton had information on the gang during black water. Sadie wasn’t a member, she also wasn’t a gun like John, Arthur, or javier. You can use this same reasoning on Tilly Jackson and the 2 other females in the gang.

Crow Hogan it’s discussed at least once, but it’s limited because Arthur himself isn’t exactly sure. He mentions “Dutch killed a girl in a bad way...” to (I think) Charles. And Agent Milton too mentions that a young woman had her head blown apart by Dutch.

It's two complete different sins. Learning how John got his scar is not important to the story. Dartigan just says that it ruins the mystery of it by being so cliché. A fucking wolf scar. Wow, how original. I would also have liked it remained a mystery. Blackwater, however, is essential to the plot. It is the main reason the whole gang needed to get away as for being criminal. Seeing everything Arthur and the crew does to the entire country in the whole game, it is justified wanting to know what happened back there, that didn't already happened after. Knowing you commit all the crime possible in a map that isn't even that big, while never getting caught make me say: "Ok. So why did they need to leave Blackwater if they can get away with being enemy of the country ?" Considering that the said-place isn't bigger than the biggest city in RDR2. On is not important to the plot and is told. The other is essential for the story and the coherence but isn't explained.

Keep in mind its a game, but if you line the map up on a map of the US, it represents about a third of the entirety. So a massive map. And you could also sin a game like GTA for giving you 3 stars for robbing a store, and also 3 for killing a cop. You expect RDR2 to punish you for killing loads of people, or committing massive crimes - but what punishment? If you rob a train and kill everyone on board, you get a massive bounty. Perhaps they should just respawn you once you kill 10 people with a message on screen saying "don't harm civilians". Clown 🤡

For someone who repeatedly said "I prefer Red Dead Redemption 1", both in the video and the deacription, he sure seems to forget a few details RDR1 eludes to/get them wrong. On the topic of RDR1: If they were to remake RDR1, they could keep it's story mostly the same and use the remake label to let them add in details about the other surviving/dead gang members. John could and should remember Hosea, Arthur and Micah. They had some of the biggest impacts on the gang.

I actually think getting attacked by wolves is a pretty good explanation as to how John got his scars. Realistically, that makes a lot of sense, and would still be a pretty badass story to tell. If someone in real life got scars from a wolf, I would think that's badass.

They could go undercover and lay low in Mexico because I doubt they'd come after him anymore than the Pinkertons did in America.

22:31 Micah's pointing out that there's a rat makes perfect sense. Sooner or later, someone was going to figure out that there was a rat, and report it to Dutch. Since Micah was the one who reported it, it pretty much eliminates him as a suspect in Dutch's eyes, for the reason of "Who would rat themselves out?" Micah also now has the ability to point fingers at anyone and accuse them of being a snitch, and Dutch will find his word to be credible since Micah is the one who told him about the snitch in the first place. It's very advanced reverse psychology.

@@billyhenerson2871 Ya'll do realize that because Micah made that accusation that Arthur *immediately* became suspicious of him right? It's just Arthur couldn't act on it because the game didn't want *us* to find out yet. And, ironic, was when we're first introduced to the characters at the start of the game; I was IMMEDIATELY suspicious of Micah. I knew he was going to fuck everything up somehow. And no, I didn't play the first game so my only knowledge of it was extremely vague. I knew the main character dies in a final shootout with the law then his son avenges (or I guess also redeems) him. That's it. I got RDR2 because it was on sale. And I knew it was a prequel, so I had no problem playing it before the first one. Going into it like this leads to some great discoveries. It took quite a while for me to realize who john was. I initially just thought he was nothing special compared to anyone else in the group. And when I played Dominos with Abigail I thought to myself 'she's really cute, but man is she a bitch'. The point of saying all that is that I thought the game was really great overall but there were quite a few moments where the dialog and interactions felt extremely scripted, rather than authentic. One of the best examples is in the first part of the epilogue when john goes to the rival families farm, and after you fist fight that one douche, you are left with the "choice" to shoot him or not. But if you do nothing for like 30 seconds to a minute, john shoots him anyhow.

Not knowing what happened in black water is what makes that part of the games story great because it’s up to the player on how you want to interpret the black water massacre

The death of the horse was emotionally and more than just a "pre-ordered horse" if you stayed with the horse since the beginning, it's like losing a part of your family. Hell I finished the Hamish side missions with Arthur where he let's you keep Beull and even that tugged at my heart when it was Buell that died, in that moment it would be Arthur thanking not only the horse but also Hamish.

8:14 Literally a few seconds later, Arthur *ASKS THE SAME GOD DAMNED THING* and she says that John is useless. I never comment about fails in a sin video...But this was just ridiculous.

Yes some missions have shootouts, even those missions will strip you of certain guns and ammunition, tell you exactly where to go and when to shoot or mission failed. Hold x to follow, or ride at a snail’s pace while some boring ass dialogue takes place. I got so tired of the lack of agency by the Tahiti missions that I just started purposely failing every mission. The game still progresses to the end even when you fail every single mission and nothing changes in the story because it’s just a 30 hour movie that happens regardless of player input. The story is also boring as hell because we already knew what happened before the game was released.

Half or more of these plot sins are explained in the freaking plot during dialogue and I know you notice them, since you seem to know every little plot detail

I think you missed the point on Ditch killing the old woman and not taking back the gold. It was there to symbolize that he didn't kill her because he thought she would betray them. The fact that he didn't take the gold back meant that this killing of his was purely for his satisfaction. In fairness to John's facial scars, flavor dialogue in gameplay alludes to John's injury. If you get attacked by wolves then John will occasionally say "How do you think I got these scars!" The fact that the sequel actually acknowledge flavor dialogue of all things, and didn't discard something most players wouldn't hear or remember as non-canon is impressive attention to detail in my opinion.

Metal Gear in particular has a host of optional codecs that have highly relevant plot details, and sequels act like those conversations never happened. The fact that Rockstar remembered flavor dialogue in gameplay instead of discarding it is impressive in my opinion.

Deez Nutz 4 years between RDR 2 epilogue and RDR 1, a child can be born and die within that time easily

"Show us what happened in Blackwater" Complains that they revealed how John got scars while wanting one of the biggest things shrouded in mystery revealed. Plus you can go through the journal and newspapers to make a good enough theory of what happened.

About the tuberculosis diagnosis, months had passed. In some parts of chapters you will see time skips that say something along the lines of a few weeks later. And the spread can quicken with unhealthy habits. Arthur didn't lead a very safe and healthy life style.

Sadie stays with the gang because her house, along everything she owned, burned to a crisp. She has literally nowhere else _to_ go. The act Hosea puts on in the bar with the moonshine is so that the Grays don’t recognise Arthur who is doing deputy work for them. He literally explained it when they were riding to the bar. This is just my interpretation regarding Bronte’s invitation to the Mayor’s party. I think he did that just to swing his dick around in Dutch’s face about how powerful he is right before he fucks him over. His attitude when you kidnap him right before his death pretty much confirms that for me. I’ll actually give that “everything important is in the middle of the book cliche” a pass because it’s literally bookmarked with a big ass piece of paper, signifying that page is actually important. Details, man. John getting left behind isn’t that much of a retcon actually. John says to Arthur that Dutch could have stopped him from getting arrested if he wanted to but he just abandoned him. Not the first time in this game either. One was leaving him behind to get arrested at the bank, and then he got left behind to die during the train robbery.

Bro sin 35 makes zero sense at all, he complains and asks why John can’t take Jack fishing, and literally in the same cutscene, Arthur asks that and Abigail explains why.

I think you guys are missing the point about Dutch not being clear about what total amount of money they need. He is basically an addict who needs "one more hit" then he will surely quit forever. Arthur has to come to terms with the fact that he is an enabler and needs to leave.

The reason Abigail asked Arthur to take Jack fishing instead of John is because John is dogshit at fathering a son and doesn’t even think Jack is his child because, as Dutch said, “We all had her, but you married her!”

as someone who has only played a bit into this game and not even touched the first... i cant help but feel bad about that entire situation. not knowing if your kid is even yours is pretty damn bad, i doubt they got a test for that type of stuff so he really wont ever truely know if thats even his son or not... as for the women thats pretty nasty... sleeping with the whole gang? I gotta be honest Woody Jackson’s scores for both this game and Red Dead Redemption are absolutely incredible. You can hear the influences of Spaghetti Western composers like Ennio Morricone, but it never becomes an immitation of a Morricone score.

I think the lack of a driving, overarching plot kind of shows that Dutch didn’t have a great plan after all

I actually liked how Marston got his scar. Him being a total badass makes you think there was some over the top crazy story behind it, but there wasnt. Nice surprise

The horse dying in the mission shouldn’t be sinned. It was put there as an emotional roller coaster. Wouldn’t make sense Arthur and John jumping off horses while being chased, the horse dying shows Arthur being at peace and a good person, that’s why he said thank you. I cry like a baby everytime I replay the game. It’s not a sin, it’s just sad.

Real problems with the game: 1. Despite being veteran outlaws/conmen, the gang can't keep aliases straight even though their lives depended on it. 2.Arthur has the ability to make ten thousand dollars by the midway point of Chapter Three. Combine that with the bank take and they could be harvesting mangos. 3. The pointless nature of revenge is a prominent theme throughout the game, and everyone is punished for partaking in it. Everyone except Sadie. She literally gets an innocent man killed going after Colm and Arthur says one thing about it to her, 4. Red Dead Online is an affront to God and good game design. 5. They make John look more and more like Arthur in the epilogue with every update. 6. The challenges in this game, master hunter in particular, are also an affront to God and good game design. 7. Despite being out for three years, characters in the game still harp on Arthur for not wearing five layers of clothes in Lemoyne. 8. At no point do Milton or Cornwall face punishment for endangering civilians in their pursuit of the Van der Linde Gang. Milton knowing sets Dutch's manic side of while he had a bank full of law-abiding hostages. Cornwall shot up a town for four men. 9. Arthur gives John his satchel, including his ten grand. Did Marston just lose it?

Still my favorite game! Also, the many storylines in the end actually fits with the gang elements of the story. There are many characters, and they all have they’re own perspective and personality. Makes things more real.

I'm German and can't wait for gameomats version. Also real OGs don't take Cover in this game, they take their Scofield revolvers out and hit those heads hots before the enemy even can shoot a bullet

2:36 They didn't know where John was and were tracking him from the campsite they found. They also don't know the area they're in so there is no real reason that they'd logically go through the easier path.

Might be just me, but I loved the more calm epilogue, it's as it should be, a slowed down close to a fast pased shooter

Markus Hellem Show the “pointless dialogue”. And it’s the Wild West dipshit, sorry your child brain can’t handle not shooting for more than 5 seconds.

“They never show us the Blackwater Job so we have no idea what happened” and “They remove the mystery from John’s scars” are 2 VERY contradictory statements/sins of the game. Either you want everything to be shown or the do you want mystery to be kept, make up your mind.

Actually they're two very different things to sin. The scar wasn't always talked about and hinted at and poked at for it's mystery. It was a thing that sparked intrigue but wasn't constantly dropped into the story as an important beat, it just made part of John's past interesting and you would want to know but it's not important to know that answer. With the Blackwater job it's constantly brought up and hamfisted into dialogue to have you interested in it while almost never giving it more substance than it went wrong and Dutch broke his own rule killing someone. It's because it's so talked about and genuinely something important to the story to know about that it shouldn't just be a throwaway mystery that gets the bare minimum of explanations. The mysteries are completely different for relevance to the story.

@@skylightsblade9468 If you didn’t know, the game completely tells you how it went down and what happened. But not in dialogue, the reason why people don’t tell you is because only Micah and Dutch know what happened really. Dutch won’t explain because he wants it to stay a secret in why he killed the girl and broke his rules so he almost never mentions it and says that he doesn’t want to talk about it all the time. He also gets angry whenever someone mentions black water. Micah won’t tell Arthur because Micah really hates Arthur and thinks he’s a fool.

This just pisses me off. "WE GOTTA WAIT 1 FUCKING SECOND TO LOOT A CORPSE RIOT" Some of those animations are just as long as the first one.

@@AsteroidSpy You can be shot at any second though. To me if someone pops out of nowhere and I don't see them in one second I'll probably be dead. I'm a pretty immersed player, so I like the looting, but that's me. If at any second I can die the looting doesn't bother me

28:30 - Am I the only one who remembers that John said "I had a daughter, but she died... BEFORE that, I rode in a gang". In the three years between 1908 (RDR2) and 1911 (RDR1), John had a daughter who dies. I don't have the time to go through each of them bit by bit but... c'mon man, if you're going to nit-pick, at least do it right...

They should've had her exist somewhere between 1907 and 1911. Like, at the very end of RDR2 after John and Abigail are married, she could mention her pregnancy, making John feel on top of the world.

Doesn't Javier say something about John's daughter when they meet?

Dutch wanting to keep John in prison is due to his paranoia about him believing John may be betraying him thanks to Micah convincing him about a rat in the gang. So when he does actions that will bring the law down on them yet yells at Arthur for breaking out John for the same reason, it's not so much a contradiction and more an excuse to not wanting him around

It's made clear that Dutch is suspicious of John and Abigail during chapter 5. Dutch tells Arthur while walking through the cave on the island that it's odd John was the only person the agents tried to arrest and not outright kill, and how odd Hosea was captured and not Abigail.

Love how you can tell what games this guy prefers. Never seen Sins video for BOTW or TW3 even though they have more sins than most games.

After 5 years i can finally watch this video! My friend spoiled the ending to read dead 2 while i was actively installing the gane after buying it day one. So I put it down until about 4 months ago. 574 hours later and I'm crying at the end credits. Love your content Dartigan

Come on, the House Building Scene and the soundtrack in it + the ending of the game really should have deserved a few sins off, they're both amazingly beautiful and / or epic moments.

People do realize that you can adjust your settings so that free aiming is actually good? It’s not rockstar’s fault you guys won’t explore the settings or look on KZread? Jeesh

Reon Thornton, you do have to realize that the majority of players use auto aim right? Free aim in max Payne was more popularized.

Well yeah because they are far more casuals than hardcore gamers in any game. I actually bothered to learn free aim with default controls and only started messing with the settings in GTA V, but had been using free aim even since GTA:Vice City with the appropriate weapons, and GTA:San Andreas when it became a major part of how I played. Max Payne had very solid shooting even in pure free aim, my only problems with it were some balance issues, particularly involving the sawn off shotgun and how damn slow the levelling was, but otherwise was a very polished shooter in auto and free aim. For context I'm a console gamer, so no mouse involved.

With regard to the change in mission rewards late game. I, luckily, went through the same emotions as Arthur. I started the game doing what was best for me and the gang.... Late game I kinda felt remorseful for my actions and the gang's. Then I did all the "good" actions. Led to me just barely getting the good ending by changing my character. Felt like that was how Arthur was meant to be played.

Something great they did is that even though there are 4 endings (and I, like many do, assume the canon ending is "Go with John" and having high honour), you can change your honour from pretty bad to just good enough in the last hour or so of the game. When you forgive Mrs. Dowes' debt (and give her more money), and one other (can't recall), you gain massive honour, so anyone who has low honour but wants the "best" ending, can have it. I really appreciated this on my second playthrough, as I had planned to do a low honour run, but last second (hour) got cold feet. I couldn't let Arthur die like that. He deserves better.

John didn't say he left after a "bank" robbery, he just said "robbery." John said he got shot and they left him to die. Referring to the last train. Its even super dramatic at the end when he is still alive, come on now

19:43 Thank you for bringing this up. It always bugged me that Dutch didn’t take the gold back. I was hoping that Rockstar would let us loot her body but nope, Arthur climbs the ladder in the cutscene.

Shaming Arthur takeing jack on a fishing trip because jack is his dad is literally the point. Abigail is having arthur do it because she hates john for leaving for a full year and saying jack wasn't his.
