The problem with Boeing Starliner is the fact it is made by Boeing.

NASA can’t dei their way out of spacecraft performance. Safe return is like presidential debate performance, it’s going to be evident to everyone and no amount of Kumbya is going to help if those astronauts get killed.

Better articulation than I would have done. As an engineer and having been a contractor for Boeing in and around most of their defense oriented facilities here in the N.W. You hinted at the real issue. The acceptance of lower expectation, hiring KIDS WITH OVERPRICED DEGREES and unloading their oder engineering staff has contributed top the clear stupidity on display in Space and lets hope not on return.

As long as SpaceX exists, nobody will ever be 'stranded in space'.

NASA and Boeing are KILLING IT ! Literally...

The media are now calling it the Starliner Max. The leaks in the suits are because they are using 10 year old suits from the Space Shuttle and they only have some spares that are either too small or too big to do a space walk. And the helium leaks in the service module can only be repaired with a space walk. They are screwed.

Let Space X rescue the two Boeing Starliner astronauts and bring the capsule back remotely so that we don't have another "Columbia" situation.

They should rename it the Boeing SS Minnow.

If NASA and BOEING are going to insist on using the capsule to bring Butch and Suni back, and if that fails resulting in another disaster, then BOEING is finished and NASA is close behind. Just do the right thing and have Elon get them back safely.

Breaking News: Steve Stitch has qualified to backup KJP as the biggest liar at the Whitehouse. NASA it's all about the spin.

What NASA needs to ultimately do is bring those astronauts safely back to earth aboard a SpaceX capsule and get the starliner to bring itself back empty if that’s even possible, we all know that the SpaceX craft is fully automated to return to earth.

It's quite obvious they are stalling. This mission is already a complete failure. That being the case, I see no reason to risk the astronauts lives by trying to bring them back on that deathtrap. Load it full of garbage and send it back by itself. I wouldn't exactly say the astronauts are stranded, as they have other options for getting back. But that depends on NASA letting them use another option.

It just has to happen at a time when China just retrieved samples from the far side of the Moon. Its a harbinger of the downfall of an empire.

I think there are issues with separation from the booster once it's left the station and if it doesn't separate re-entry is going to be a disaster.

Boeing is losing the ability to solve serious problems and is increasingly relying on the art of verbiage.

For safety sake return the starliner unmanned and bring the astronauts home with SpaceX crew Dragon due to it's safety record and reliability. It would be foolish to risk the lives of these astronauts on a spacecraft that clearly is having multiple issues at this time. Don't let Boeing's ego kill 2 astronauts.

Fully agree!!! The station can dock to different capsules…the other astronauts are going in a Space X capsule….yes it will cost 100s of millions…but should anything happen to those astronauts on the Boeing ship Boeing is done.

When they first went to the ISS, they still let their hair down, but after working, I thought they would tie their hair.

At some point Boeing will realize they can’t trust the spacecraft to safely bring the astronauts back. They will have to send an Uber to pick them up (imagine the surge pricing and the massive expected tip!).

So they’re having problems with their Rockets. Problems with their space suits. And problems with their spaceship. So why don’t we use SpaceX????? 🤷🤷🤷🤷 instead of waiting till somebody dies ☠️

The ship set to dock with ISS in space. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Starliner would be lost.

Boing has been having major QC issues with their aircraft fleet. It would seem they're having similar QC issues with their space program as well. If NASA keeps bolstering Boings program without seeing significant improvement in their management, it starts to bring into question the judgment of NASA's officials

They should not send the crew back with the Starliner. If the return works fine without the crew, that's called a successful test flight. SpaceX will clean up the Boeing mess.

How long till all the helium is leaked out? 😂 They are just waiting for spaceX to announce the rescue mission. No way after this they put people back Starliner and hope everything goes well. When going trough the atmosphere you need a lot of RCS firing so they get hot and looks they fail under heat. So they are stranded in space and just waiting before SpaceX comes to the rescue. And this will be a big blown for Boeing again.

Not at all. As long as it is docked, nothing is leaking. And EVERYTHING which causes issues (thrusters and heliumleak) is on the servicemodule, not on the Starliner capsule. So as soon as reentry starts, everything is fine anyway because that faulty service module is gone by then.

@adventureairinc7355 Why have there been so many problems surrounding the leaks and whether there would be enough helium, and secondly yes the servicemodlule will be discarded before reentry. But they holding Starliner for testing and making sure it will be ALL safe. If there were no leaks anymore because the valves are closed and there is enough helium. Why can't they come back if there are no issues enough redundancy?

@@LennardA320 Helium will be used up and is leaking slowly when the open the valves for the return. But it is more than enough there, since helium leaks are very common in space flight. They can come home anytime. But then they do not excactly know what happend and why cause the service module with it´s issues is gone. The idea is to check the issues as long as the module ist still available and can transfer data. There is not "so many problems" there is actually just one: automated thruster shut down. And why not testing live in space when they have the opportunity to do so.

Yes there is many times more helium than needed, that is redundancy. And yes use some of the time to learn what the problems are because you can test it now in space however not on Earth. But my concerns are regarding now delay on delay on delay. There are problems that is why starliner is still docked. If everything is fine they can say a date and return but sadly they don't know if starliner is up to the task. Probably 90% yes but after glitches in systems name it. This causes concerns and delays and every time scrubbing a return gives no confidence that everything is good. So I am not sure about how safe this all is. It is a test flight but how much risk is BOEING want to take. Losing another over 6 Billion dollar craft with astronauts? Even if it returns.

NASA says they’re not stranded up there. I say wanna bet

They launched it with leaks, it should have never flown. Now they need a space x rescue mission and just cut the star liner away and let it burn up on reentry or just send it toward the sun to be destroyed

If the earlier 45 day time limit was arbitrary, then why pick that number. What analysis was done to pick that number and why is that analysis NOW not valid? Why is it taking so long to "test" the service module and why couldn't they have tested it on the ground prior to launch? This raises a QA issue. And why can't they now test the service module on the ground with the one being built?! Something is not right and Boeing/NASA isn't telling us the entire truth.

NASA and Boeing is doing great. I'll stay on the ground, Thanks.

If NASA can simply extend the 45 day cerrtified maximum battery duration for Starliner in order to allow for extra tests to take place, this means that a) they are using up the built-in safety margins which will increase the risk for the astronauts on their return flight, or 2) the certification of a 45 day maximum battery duration was not based on any hard data. Either way it looks at though NASA should call in SpaceX to solve this major problem before they decide whether to continue with the Starliner project.

Boeing, you had one job…produce a second reliable crew/cargo transport to ISS…..what we got is a lemon, another NASA boondoggle spacecraft. Very disappointing.

If SpaceX can get their spa craft operational in half the time at half the cost with zero issues then Boeing has failed in a massive and very expensive way and any further business with government should be with great scepticism. I agree with your sentiment, but one important reason for having an additional spacecraft is that Starliner can use it's thrusters to correct or adjust the ISS position and trajectory through space. Now and then it needs to be lifted or angled differently due to incoming space debris. SpaceX Crew Dragon can't do that. The only other craft that can do this is Soyus.

Boo, to NASA and Boeing. The mission planners say not to worry! Let's send them [the planners] into space on a Starliner...strand them for a month or two and then see how they feel about the little glitches of the Starliner! OK, the Starliner crew are not technically stranded as SpaceX can return them to Earth easily (we hope) but that is not the point of this video discussion. But don't try to tell me that the Starliner crew are happy with these events and if they are, then they need psychological evaluation when they return...along with the mission planners. All need to be replaced with responsible leadership and ...

If its safe to return. Then return. You don't get any credibility hanging around the space station for "no reason"... because What can they do in the next 10 days that they haven't done already? Are they going to do a space walk to inspect the dead thruster? I don't think so when the suits keep malfunctioning (this is the second or third water leak). Just take pictures and go home. That shouldn't take weeks. No one believes you are going to spacewalk, dismantle thruster assembly, reassemble it and fly home... so What are you doing? It REALLY seems like NASA is lying about the capsule being safe or you would just land it, take the data and FIX the clearly flawed thruster design. We had good thrusters 60 years ago but Now its beyond Boeing's ability... well, THAT seems much more credible as they are run by shaved chimps that killed 350 people a few years ago and blew out a door recently and rubbish left in new airliner crawl spaces and this on the heels of the Disasterous 787 that couldn't make a profit for 10 years because some Dimwit high up decided to make fuselages in Italy and then build unique airliner just to transport them to South Carolina. Boeing is Critical to national defense. It Really can't be allowed to fail. Their current C Suite needs to GO and they desperately need to move all the suits out of Chicago, 1500 miles from the techs and engineers. Living in an ivory tower Clearly hasn't helped. Bring in Musk or Shotwell to hire their replacements and Purge the company of DEI zombies. He did it with Twitter and it now runs nicely on 1/3 the head count. I would start by clearing out Chicago office. After the 737Max fiasco followed by the blown out door, its clear the "leadership" is worse than clueless, they are Dangerous.

I'm just glad the astronauts got there safely. Hopefully they return safely as well. If they have to return via Space X Dragon, at least they will be back safely, but I hope NASA has learned their lesson and not trust Boeing.

It is not surprising that Mark Nappi finds reading media reports about the Starliner mission painful, with delay after delay in getting the astronauts back home safely. The first crewed Starliner mission, even if it ends with a perfect and problem free landing, has been a public relations disaster for Boeing and NASA.

Boeing, just give it up. Admit failure and send a Dragon capsule to save them.

After what been going on with Boeings planes lately I don’t understand how they are trusted with this.

I am curious how much capability the crews have to repair the suits and other systems. Because of weight considerations I would think it is very limited.

Saving the life of the astronauts first is more important than NASA trying to involved in a massive public relations exercise and downplay Starliner’s problems about learning from its setback while the astronauts is in a threatening situation in space. Is there any way to rescue Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore and bring them home safely!?!?

Remember GM the giant? No more. Boeing? On very slippery slope.

The main problem is to understand who's guilty, the thrusters or the software? Or both? My understanding is that this Starliner will be returned to earth empty. This is the supreme shame for Boeing.
