Breath of the Wild made me feel something I thought had died in me. That feeling of wonder, exploration and excitement I'd get when exploring in the very first great 3D games, like Tomb Raider and Mario 64. Nintendo, to me, are the only ones carrying this torch in the industry today. Mario Odyssey was also phenominal. PlayStation and Xbox just can't compete in this field, to me. This is purely subjective. Thank you, Nintendo. :)

KCwellard my brother bought it a week after it game out, I played it for about an hour, didnt really catch the flow and then didn't look at it again. Last week I was missing a good adventure game. I missed the feeling of exploring and discovering things, running through awesome landscapes and so many great memories from past games. So I tried the game again as my brother loved it, played it some more and fell in love. Its amazing

Geralt Of Rivia Witcher is great for its story, sidequesting and characters. But its exploration aspect is absolutely generic and doesnt hold a candle to BotWs. Just like the whole core gameplay. But thats ok. Witcher succeeds in all the areas where Zelda doesnt, and the other way round. Those games focus on totally different things, you cant really compare them. And Ive played 175 hours of Witcher 3 (currently on my second playthrough on deathmarch), and 300 hours of BotW, so I know what Im talking about. Those two are my absolute favorite modern open world games.

J- Rod I’m the same as you. Super Nintendo is my favorite system of all time, mainly because the nostalgia rooted in it for me, but otherwise I’ve been a PlayStation or PC gamer. This is my first Nintendo system since the GameCube and it is absolutely mind-blowingly good. I haven’t touched my PC or PS4 in a long time. Breath of the Wild may be favorite game I’ve played in the past 10 years and Super Mario Odyssey is sublimely fun as well. Just picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and enjoying that as well. I doubted the Switch as well but Nintendo finally hit a home run with this one.

you have to play botw, it's amazing, I loved the landscape, the combat, the missions, the shrines, the side quests which btw don't put markers on your map so you have to figure things out yourself, the map is huge and even the first town you visit looks so magical, though I didn't quite like the boss battles very much, they could have been harder like something out of Metroid because once you get good gear, get good at combat and the runes from the slate they are pretty easy to beat, even Calamity Ganon

I think the 32+ million units sold of the switch is a good sign too.

I was in the audience that night, and to those like me, who are in the know about Aonuma-san and his life goal, this is something that was 19 years in the making, and it was damn beautiful to see him feel like he finally accomplished it.

Well-deserved. Breath of the Wild is an incredible game, closing in on my favorite game of all time.

ALE199 GAME No PUBG isn't about just money grabbing, PUBG is a 30$ game, with micro transaction that don't give you any advantage in-game. It also has alot of bugs and still yet a huge amount of people play it meaning that those people are enjoying it so much that they are willing to ignore the bugs the game currently has

Honestly, looking back at this 4 years later, even though 2017 Was a crazy year for games, the GOTY winner was beyond a doubt BOTW. In other years amazing games like Horizon, Mario Odyssey etc would have won easily, but up against this game, no chance. Yet, these people, working at one of the world's most accomplished development studios, one of them being a serious veteran of the industry, are so GENUINELY happy about receiving this award, it's heartwarming. Also the fact that literally everyone felt the need for a standing ovation.

Mario and Zelda were nominated? Nintendo's recovered from the WiiU by miles. Nintendo may even win next year with Metroid Prime 4 coming out next year.

Hate to break it to you, but, it is impossible that Metroid Prime 4 will release next year. They are making a new engine for it, and they just started on it this year. The last game they made a new engine for was Breath of the Wild, and the game didn't release until 4 years after we got a trailer of it. We don't even have a trailer of Metroid Prime 4 yet. Honestly, we'll be lucky if it releases within the Switch's lifespan.

I just recently played BotW, I just bought a Switch last December. I was obviously skeptical about it because I thought it was just another kiddie game. I didn't even realize it but I was already 70+ hours in when I saw my game log. It was really an amazing game. I didn't expect that much attention to detail from something like that.

I’m so glad Nintendo one this year, they really all deserve it, from breath of the wild to Mario oddesey this year, they did great. Iwata really would be proud...

I legit cry everytime I watch this

So many amazing nominees this year, I mean it goes to show that 2017 was a fantastic year for real developers.

It had to win! Nothing this year even came close! (well except for Super Mario Odyssey) Congratulations Nintendo!

ALE199 GAME with goty it doesn't matter how much time was put into something. cuphead isn't a bad game but by any means and I enjoyed it myself but judging off gameplay botw easily beat it

ALE199 GAME lmao. Botw is so extremely well polished its absolutely astonishing. I dont know if you watched interviews but they playedtested it over and over and over again to make sure it was almost perfect and it really turned out great. The physics look very good, their are very few (visual) bugs and the game feels smooth, like everything just... Works.

2023 is the year guys

I am not surprised, I had put 400 hours in botw, the reason I got the switch, it was the best game for me. I haven’t been playing it in a while, but looking back to it put tears in my eyes. Breath of the wild definitely deserved it
