skin zebasi losing that one city is such a big blunder. they could've dominated the map with 4 vs 2 city advantage.

Yes, that was a game of mistakes from both sides. The regular zebasi player made less errors and won.

The "host skips turn 1" thing reminds me of the Advance Wars community. Is that where the organizers got the idea from?

Playing live on the highest level is tough. Time pressure, trying to find out what your opponent is doing, very little space to move. All that can give you a lot of headaches and be a cause of mistakes and errors.
