Honestly I think the gaslighting part only happened as a joke after Arin started cracking up. Dan's not technically wrong, but Arin can't wrap his head around "listening to an album" being just one or two songs from that album. Songs have been so compartmentalized by streaming that it's way easier to see them as individual things, but songs are to chapters what albums are to books. You can't read a chapter without reading it from the book. Dan was just trying to help Arin with music lingo, then got into the gaff once Arin broke.

I want to know what made Dan decide "hmm today I will gaslight Arin into thinking he's really into Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins"

I had heard most of this a few times and it makes me smile listening to it again, but hearing Dan scream this at the end cracked me up out loud because I both expected it and didn’t expect it at the same time.

I believe at one point he did state his few top favorite, but not all of them in order. But to be honest, ranking 19 albums for all their songs is a tough task. A few of them boil down into parts/phases like 2112, not being an album in the traditional sense, instead having multi-part single songs that all tell an overarching story for the one song the parts are all in. Personally, for me, it's 2112, Farewell to Kings, and Moving Pictures being the favorites. The classics are classics for a reason haha

@@makotroid108 This was the only time the Smashing Pumpkins went FULL metal, and it was AWESOME!! Billy's growling scream along with the PRIMAL scream of RAGE just before the climactic slowdown fucking RULES!!! When they went hard on this song, they DEFINATELY went hard. And it's the heaviest song on the album too. The fast paced part in the 2nd half followed by Billy's screams of rage and angst is without a doubt the best part of the song.

MCATIS is one of SP''s best albums they ever released. So many good songs like "here is no why", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "By Starlight", "Thirty Three", "Love", "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans", "Tales Of a Scorched Earth", "Where Boys Fear To Tread", "Tonight Tonight", "Zero", "JellyBelly", and "XYU".... XYU without a doubt is the HARDEST and HEAVIEST song on the album... and it's the only song that has a nu-metal vibe. Billy's screams in XYU are fucking visceral and primal!!!

the album is very much real however i think by this point because the joke is so rehashed that i think arin has probably genuinely listened to it by now lol. it's like whenever he's said something a ton ironically and eventually ended up saying it unironically, like "lets fucking go"

OK but all jokes aside that album is amazing.

I prefer Siamese Dream myself but Mellon Collie is still an amazing album
