Well this took a while, but I'm so glad it's finally here - the Game Gear that I purchased from eBay as completely broken is now fully working.. But I want to go one step further.. it's time to rebuild it to make it awesome for 2024..
I remove the knackered shell, buttons and rubbers, and replace them with new versions from @RetroSix - the case also supports stereo speakers, so it seemed like a good time to upgrade the Sound Board too.
The biggest job is throwing out the god awful original screen and replacing it with a @bennvennelectronics IPS LED Screen..
It's not an easy job, but my goodness, the results are WORTH IT.

That is one neat job on that screen fitting. I would of black sharpied that green speaker bracket for now.

interesting update to the game gear, but think the upgrades are more expensive than what the game gear originally costed, although saying that I never had the money to even think of getting the game gear when it was launched to even look at the cost of it, in my books it had one of those hidden price tags whereby they can charge more than you can afford, but got to contact the seller for a price (hard sale tactics I think)!!
From what I understand, those power and sound cables on the Game Gear weren't the bestest of quality

You're probably not wrong.. I do have some spares just in case!
I realize this is a month old at this point but - try not to use the screws that come with aftermarket replacement shells. That goes for any shell, any and any console. They're always soft useless garbage.
