Feature creeps huge. I completed Muck yesterday - very tight concept resulting in a fun experience, simple. Compared to Craftopia which is survival/RPG/crafting/farming/looter and more.. still an incredible game technically but it's just EXHAUSTING

I've felt that way with rpgs recently....like a new feature introduced every hour. Can still play great but you end up feeling like you need to study before you boot it up again. 👍

Cannot wait to see this channel shoot past 100k! You know that rare point on youtube when you come across a new channel (4 months at the time of writing) and instantly you're like "Wow how hasn't anyone found this person yet" but then of course they've just started... These videos are just so well done!

The first one is good, but, I'd say it depends a bit on what you are trying to do. If you are searching for a unique visual representation, then the rendering style and asset pipeline should come early, rather than late. It doesn't mean that all assets need to be polished or even finished, etc, but if you have the pipeline in place, it might affect all other considerations, so better get it done sooner than later. Maybe.

Very true when visual structure has gameplay implications. All the more reason to prototype to see what might affect what.

Hmm. I think in that single case of visuals effecting gameplay, sure, otherwise the placeholder assets and vertical slice process is always better. I can't even think of a game where visual style defines gameplay. Maybe...like...minecraft, if when you had the concept you weren't sure how you'd render the world, and didn't consider voxels at that point...

I kinda hate this advice if I'm being honest because it feeds into the problem not helping it. You should make the games you want to make, rescope if you need too but that IS your game. Your initial idea is not the game you want to make anyways. The problem with this advice is people make a random ass game that basically will never help you improve towards your goal.

I see a fellow FilmBooth enjoyer! Great video :) Heads up - your avatar might not even be at the point of having wishlists or even a published Steam page, because they probably haven't even finished a single game yet. Great info though and there's clearly tons of work out into this video!

I'll be honest I disagree heavily with your first point for a few reasons. The big one for me is that, gameplay doesn't get wishlists, what your gameplay looks like does. If you want to start building wishlists early, getting some visuals and polish down early just too make sure your steam page is up early and looks good can be worth it. There are some games with amazing gameplay that don't get wishlists or sales because the visuals don't sell the gameplay. And when getting a steam page up *early* is so important, spending some time to make sure it's set up nice is not bad at all. The other half of that is that having early visuals can do 2 additional things. Keep you Motivated and ground a games themes. Solo dev is a journey of self motivation and discipline, and it can be very discouraging to play something grey and lifeless for too long. Not doing any art can kill a project just as much as doing too much I'm that sense. Plus, needing to redo art isn't a reason to wait on it till the end. Art like many other aspects of the design if a game is iterative, you will be making it over and over again to get better results, whether you do this early or later. But if you space out the art reworks your getting more time to feel out how a particular style or asset looks for a good length. Regardless with my issues on this point the video is well made, great work on it.

Everytime i throw a way my dream game idea and i try to come up with a smaller project, this becomes my next dream game 😅😅😅. Soo maybe sometimes its just that easy to stick to it. But i think the important thing is really scope. And ur plan really helps here. Oh amd don‘t compare yourselve or ur game to other … in some cases in ur mind u will always fail. Just stick to it finish it and u are good to go , the next dream project is alread waiting around the cornor 😅😅

When it comes to protecting IP or similar...it's pretty typical to have people sign an NDA. And ideas can come and go but the implementation of that idea is something only few can do. It would be a tall task for someone to steal an idea and reverse engineer it.

The reason the icon of Godot is a Robot, is because that's how you pronounce it. "Go-dot" like "Ro-bot". But, nobody in this community is strick about that name. You could say any G starting word followed by a second syllable and people will be chill, cause you tried.
