GAME CHANGER for my trails - LaneShark LS3 - Day 86 (U)

We currently have over 2 miles of trails, and when I complete my mapped-out trail system, we will have over 3 miles of trails. We are an outdoors family, and these trails provide recreation, relaxation, and transportation to access our entire property. With a lot of trails comes a lot of trail maintenance.
The ground work is relatively easy; pull a cutter or blade. We want the above-ground work to be just as easy. To knock down the overgrowth from the sides and above, a pole saw was the tool of choice. While it's not incredibly difficult, doing it all day on miles of trails is not the exercise I look forward to.
Insert the LaneShark LS3. This is a hydraulic-powered articulating rotary cutter that attaches to the loader of a tractor. I have a BadBoy 4035H tractor, which calls for the LS3 model from LaneShark. While using it in the centered horizontal position is effective for a more targeted approach to rotary cutting operations, that's not where it shines. The most common use for this implement is to have it offset to the right and in the vertical orientation. This allows the operator to use the bucket lift and bucket curl to make targeted cuts high above the ground (about 12' with my setup) to address those overgrown branches and vegetation that will eventually take over the trail from the side and from above.

NOTE: According to the owner's manual, the hydraulic hoses should be disconnected before changing the position of the Lane Shark. I did not do this. Don't be a dummy like me.

I spray paint my hydro lines. Makes it easier for the people using them when I can’t yell at them. Just a short blast to give it a colored spot. Red for pressure, blue for return. Like arteries in your body.

You need to go to the nearest big box store and get a 4’ stick of 3/8” or 1/4” rod and an old fashioned screen door spring. Affix the rod vertically and use the spring from the tip of the rod to a point on the hoses to keep them out of the way when using the lane shark. Drill a few holes in the rod to attach the spring to the rod and the rod to the lane shark, using self drilling and tapping screws to mount the rod to the lane shark (not on the mounting plate). A few zip ties to attach to the hoses, you’re all set, no more worries about cutting your lines.

Also when cutting limbs, it really shines if you tilt the curl down on top of the limbs and cut on the downward sweeping motion.

@@JayBates unfortunately no, I’ve only used that setup on a “for hire” job. Wasn’t my tractor. But it works quite well. Personally I would have put the spring pole where it could be moved when adjusting the lane shark. The setup is something we used to do with hoses on bobcats back when I worked for Bobcat and was setting up machines for forestry service.
