I somehow beat this as a kid (no maps, no internet, just pure addiction) and is probably the reason it's one of the most nostalgic games for me. When Super Metroid came out a few years later I nearly lost my mind when the opening showed the baby Metroid hatch. I loved that lil guy. Fantastic series.

Maan these were the days, pure joy playing the game, no looking stuff up just pure gold playing a great and xonfusing game but willing to do anything to beat it and yes the ending was epix for me. This game holds a spexial plaxe in my heart and spirit. This was one of my first memories in gaming. Suxh and honor to have gotten an amazing xhildhood. Everyday i xouldnt wait to get off sxhool just to try and beat this game and the satisfaxtion of obtaining a new item or upgrade was so fulfilling. Id also say this game and LoZ OOT was one of the few games i beat without help as a kid. I haven’t quite found that feeling of fulfilling on these games in today’s age. Maybe im not looking hard enough. Ah took me baxk you saying “pure addixtion” haha

NEVER knew the intro music was more than just that monotone screeching! Years of playing the game as a kid and I would always press start before that

As a kid, I was so lost in this game. Didn't get far at all. Watching this now for the first time in over 20 years is trippy.

This hit home for me harrrrdddd

I got a gameboy in 1993 when I was nine and this was the first game I got for it I think. The sound and the environments just made you feel so alone and claustrophobic. They did so much with so little. What an amazing game.

I found them all when I played in the eaely 90s. Usually just have to not care slimming your way up every wall all over lol

I remember being seven years old stuck on how to play this game. The days where you only knew what the protagonist looked like because of the box art. ;}

i can immedietely tell i like this run. "oh that guy hit me. gotta turn around and make sure he DIES!"

I spent more energy trying to learn the song by ear and play it on my piano. Fun times. I was never good at any games. I was always listening tot the songs.

This brings back so many childhood memories. I was born in 1984.

Remember playing this in the dark with a game boy light adapter as a kid, was a bit creeped out by the game, still today the game has great suspense. Good memories.

this game was one of my all platforms favorite... And I beat it in my dad's car while doing the ride to go to Disney World!!! Awesome memories!

I love the theme that plays when Samus acquires an item.

As a kid, before KZread and stuff, I used to like games like Super Mario Land and cute stuff and this came to me as surprise to love it - little did I know I was not the only one. But seriously, the ambiance this game has is remarkable :D

i remember when i was 7 yrs old i draw my own map on a piece of paper so i wouldnt get lost, but i could never beat this game either ..

How cute and clever idea

Bought this game in September 1993. Took me few weeks to beat it. My favorite game ever.

When i was a kid i thought the jumping animation looked like samus tied up in a knot.

As a child, it took me years to finish it. The other kids had played Mario Land, but I just had to get Metroid for my Game Boy. I was totally into the game. As a 6-year-old, it was completely overwhelming. But I loved it!

one of the best games ever. spent many a day playin this as a wee lad. all the tunes, sound effects and images bring back so many fond memories.

I played this game religiously as a kid and barely got anywhere 😂

Nothing beats Samus's chicken walk in the first Metroid.

Metroid 2 was one of my first Game Boy games when I was a kid and being only 8 years old at the time it scared the crap out of me! And I loved it! This was back before maps existed so I had no idea where to go, I just knew I was hunting these alien creatures and trying to stay alive! It was so dark and the only thing that kept me going was the music and a desire to see how far down into the planet I could get to find more weapon upgrades and better suits

Nintendo Power at the time had a couple issues that had the maps for this game. Sadly a big flood wiped out my NP magazines I had in outside storage (though I believe my Gamepro and EGM mags survived due to being on a higher level of the storage shed), so no more maps for me unless I want to download the magazines.

That intro music is pretty tight if you stop and really listen to it.

Surely we're not going to ignore how great this music is for being on the GameBoy. I also like how it foreshadows the boss metroid battle with a shed shell at 11:26.

That final battle is frantic. I think i was prouder to have beaten this game than winning a baseball game

Managed to beat this somehow as a kid after getting lost countless times 😆 one of the very best games out there

Classic...I remember playing this it was amazing, when I found the secrets to power up it was such a feeling and the metroids scared the hell out of me , the music was so atmospheric as well

This was the only Metroid game I played as a kid, and I believe one of the very first video games I beat. Not sure if I beat this or Kirby's Dreamland first. Fantastic game!

I have no idea how I beat this game as a kid.

I remember beating this game in 1994-95 when I was 12 or 13 and beat the game without using any help, took me over 100 hours 😁 It was a nightmare to find everything plus hidden rooms. The NES and Gameboy turned me into a life long gamer.

*So much nostalgia. I only typed Metroid today because of a PC ad used the word in their banner and was like HOLY CRAP. Let me check on this game for Game Boy. One of the very first games I ever played ever.* _Depressing as hell_

Same here. Took two years to beat and some of that was basically spoon fed to me through friends on what to do. Even in the beginning I had to wait like 2 weeks before my friends showed me you have to downward shoot those blocks at the very start of the game.

Did you know btw, that varia suit is actually a mistranslation. In japanese it was named バリア "ba-ri-a" aka barrier suit, but was mistranslated into "varia".

I wonder if the metroid franchise can be for kids, because the metroid prime had scenes that I think were heavy, apart from the ERSB rating, because before I didn't have control of it, I only had it after the mortal Kombat was released.

It’s my childhood fave game. It was one of the most unforgettable moment for me when I completed all the levels and destroyed the thing like dinosaurs. I felt like I saved the world. Wish to go back that time and stay as child forever.....

This game was so good. I can't believe I beat this thing as an 8 year old.

I got so mad at this game when I was little because there was no map, at least that I could find in the game. I never beat it because of that. I loved the game though. So addictive.

The best metroid. Everything about this game is perfect from every aspect of the gameplay, the storyline, the world it features right down to the tunes in all the different sections.

This game was the bomb 💣 Was my favourite out of the all the game boy games !

I remember that hole is an exit to when you run out of rocket ammo and have to make a quick exit to refill again, but you have to start making your way back to the boss and fight it again😐

Before there was Resident Evil this was one of my favorite games as a kid. I miss the original Game Boy. I played this game for so many hours. I also beat the whole game without maps and a strategy guide. I got all Samus's upgrades the best achievement. The good old fashioned days back when games had less or no dialogue certain games had no save points. Back when Gamestop used to be called Babbage's. Those were the days simple times.

this game entertained me for HOURSSSSS

I think, someday, this game will be recognized for its own unconventional greatness; kind of like Majora's Mask. It may not trump Super in most eyes, but what it has is definitely of some value.

I enjoy these more than speedruns, since I get to see it how I played it back then.

I remember playing this after all the hype about it and I was blown away

1:52:05 .. cool how you can hear the queen room away .. nice touch!

It's still a source of pride for me that I could once beat Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Contra and Metroid, the last being a stellar combo of all those equally great games. Man, they all swept me into another world unlike anything else ever has.

I just got this from Club Nintendo! I am so excited!

For a game boy game people don’t realize how deep this game was. I was 5 when this dropped and I used to be about to have a heart attack when your life running low and you on a boss fight. Terrorizing for a kid my age lol

when i was 4 and got in trouble my dad would put me in the corner of my room to stare at the wall.. after a few minutes my dad would feel sorry for me and then hed give me his GameBoy with Metroid 2 in it.. my all time fav game :) i misbehaved very often :D

This game rocks!!! Metroid II is definedly one of my all time favourite games. I prefer this game even to Metroid prime and Black ops ;)

Ahhhh memories of being 13 years old in '91...

I only had a handful of Game Boy games growing up. This was one of them. Never beat it. I should see if it’s still at my mom’s house next time I visit and give it another shot. It’s probably been close to 25 years since I last played.

this game is called "the forgotten" (in the metroid series) for me it is unforgettable: when I was a kid, I traded against a fucking transformer ac / dc! because of the exorbitant price of batteries it was a terrible mistake youth ... unforgivable
