Very positive review. I recently made a Q5 GBC, but always wanted the custom lens. Now I'm very tempted to make one of these...

Lenses that aren't dark gray like OEM (and not meant to be cutsom) are a huge pet peeve of mine, but so is dust between the lens and screen. It really sucks that a lot of laminated screens use black lenses but I like how CGS'S use the oem color! Another pet peeve is noticeably larger or smaller screens, just like OEM looking stuff idk

I'd jump at a 2.45" laminated if it came in the Togepi/Pokeball variant

Also would be great if we could of gotten a side to side comparisons of colors and LCD tone vs the others.

Awesome video, was waiting for you to cover this one. It's a shame this one is not trans reflective like it's younger brother 2.2 which could be turn off all the way and use in direct sunlight.

On the plus side, because it's not transflective, it does have significantly improved black levels over transflective LCDs

Thanks for your videos. Do you know if there is an ips screen that have the same size than original screen, without trimming shell? I have a 2.2 ips screen from aliexpress but it's smaller than original screen. I want to keep my original shell because replacement shell and Button from Aliexpress are not good quality. Thanks.

should work fine. I'm not aware of any GBC kits that need the stock regulator.

@@makho Update: there is in fact an issue! The CGS kits have their own DC converter built in which has some kind of compatibility issue if you're running from the C pin of the power switch. It caused mad screen flickering. The solution was to wire it to a different point (top innermost pin of where the stock DC converter used to be) which in giltesa's kit is the first anchor point of the installation.

can you take a q5 screen out of a phone and plug it in to the ribbon if mine broke ? lol i might have to start gettting some old phones in that case lol

Yes. Bare replacement panels are pretty cheap though.

You'd have to ask boxypixel that one. Any shell can be modified though if you don't mind putting in some work with a metal file.

How does one laminate the screens themselves? I want a laminated screen but they don't make any with pikachu and pichu... -_-

Do you think it's possible to use this with Helder's Game Tech GBC Power Regulator? I have this battery mod installed along with game boy color 2.45 in laminate tn lcd and led buttons back lights, I noticed that when I low my volume I hear a loud buzzing white noise I was thinking maybe installing the power regular mod would help with the buzzing.

These consoles are not known for their high quality audio. The best fixes for audio issues are almost always to just clean the volume wheel and power switch. Throwing more mods at the problem is only going to make things worse unless you actually address the issue.

Ooof... RGRS really out here trying to charge $60 for a TN panel kit when they got the IPS ones for the same price.

The LCD itself is just a small part of the cost of a kit.

Bought one using your link 😊 been on the fence a while now and pulled the trigger! I kinda messed up and I can't get my speaker wires to solder back on correctly I think I melted the pads on the MOBO ....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Melted is probably the wrong terminology but there are schematics available for the GBC. You should be able to locate some nearby components to attach the speaker to (though may I recommend getting some more practice in first?). wiki.console5.com/wiki/Game_Boy_Color
