Well, you were right. It sure was something. Just the plot lines surrounding the whole thing, from the rain delay causing the final 4 games to be on 4 straight days, David Ortiz's walkoffs, Schilling's bloody sock, ARod's glove slap, Derek Lowe & Johnny Damon's redemption in game 7, if this were a movie script, it'd be called out for being too unbelievable and overdramatic.

Mariano took it like a man at Fenway's home opener, 2005. He got a mock ovation from the fans when he was introduced and he was laughing his head off. That cemented new found respect from Red Sox fans. They cheered again when he was at Fenway for the last time. Cheers Mo!

Partly cause its baseball, so there are alot of moments of complete still and calm, but to me this is one of the most erie moments in sports, this inning starts right before the clock strikes midnight. This video doesn't show it, but when the broadcast comes back from commercial, to start the bottom of the 9th, Joe Buck does a monologue, about everything that has gone wrong for the red sox in the past three games and 24 hours, how much the yankees out scored them by ect,. Then the camera shows the clock as the clock strikes minight, and Joe Bucks comments on it, and how the red sox are three outs away from being swept. And it was like after the clock strikes midnight, everything turns around. They show the face of a kid at 2:21 who has the look that sums up all red sox fans emotions. Utter exhaustion. Enough is enough said God. And Rivera throws ball 4. And after that everything went right.

What's so amazing, all this happens after midnight, something MLB perspective amiss, I remember leaving work and driving over the speed limit, listening on the radio. Rivera somehow had the weight of the world on his shoulders and fear on his face, too bad Red Sox didn't win the game in the 9th inning, but that leads to David Ortiz heroics.

@Chickmagnut90 Basically it was a pitch out only better. Look at where that pitch was thrown. High fastball just outside the strike zone. Perfect location for a catcher. It gave Posada the best opportunity to stand and throw Roberts out in one motion. Most traditional pitchouts are more to the outside and usually have a bit less oomph on them (to avoid a wild pitch). The problem is Roberts had a big lead and a great jump. It would have taken a perfect throw to nail him. And it was a very good throw. Quick release and accurate. But it wasn't perfect. Just slightly to the shortstop side of the bag. That was just enough to let Robert's BARELY beat the tag.

Like you, I've been a red sox fan since 1975. The 1975 World Series and the 2004 ALCS were the two most exciting series in my life time. The 2004 world series was an anti-climax after watching the Red Sox come back and beat the Yankees. 2004 was so darn special that the Red Sox could/can not ever match it. I still have my 2004 Red Sox American League Champions ball cap as a keep sake. Too precious to wear. I must've bought over a dozen 2004 WS ball caps. I still wear them today. I've watch the Red Sox win other WS - 2007, 2013, 2018. None were as special 2004.

The Yankees were so heavily favored, especially since they won the first 3 games and really seemed to have the upper hand. No one expected the Sox to win game 4, never mind the series. I was at my parent’s house that day, a divided Sox/yanks household. Dad was thrilled at the prospect of the Yankees humiliating the Sox two years in a row. Mom said, “wait til next year”, just as she had every year since being born into a Sox family. I was rooting for the Sox but since I ‘m a realist I didnt hold out much hope. That game changed everything for Sox fans and made us believe in miracles, especially the older fans like my Mom who had witnessed so much failure.

I became a baseball & Yankees fan in 2001 and so have only witnessed one championship season for my beloved Yankees in the past twenty years. This had to be one of our lowest points. Then again I sometimes think of Texas Rangers fans who were agonizingly one strike away from winning their first ever championship in 2011. Love love loved this rivalry. Yankees fan myself, don’t even like MLB much these days mostly because nothing will ever top Jeter, Mo, and company. Same goes for the Sox though with Manny, Papi, Varitek. Just absolutely legendary.

"Well you know the rest. Rivera walks Millar, Roberts runs and steals second, Mueller drives him in, Ortiz an extra inning, extra innings again the next game, Schilling's bloody sock in New York, Lowe and Pedro find their form, Damon's grand salami in Game 7. Bye-Bye Bambino!" -Fever Pitch

The turning point of the series and of a franchise. A beautiful sequence of events that helped reverse the curse. First the walk, then the steal by Roberts, then the Bill Mueller hit to score Robert’s as the tying run, ultimately culminating in Big Papi with the walk off to win it. Then he hit a walk off single in game 5 to send it back to New York. And we all remember what happened next. And I’m glad I witnessed this live. How time flies. This was 19 years ago and it still feels like it was just yesterday.

OUTFOXEM we're just going to have to disagree man it's not the same as it was from the 90's until around 2005. Back then we had Great players,Great teams, and stadiums were always loud, packed and filled with energy even regular season games.I went to a game few weeks back with a friend and the stadium was half empty and everyone looked flat our bored.

+Lee Pavano We can agree to disagree, but you're missing out. My best baseball memories are from the 90's too, and for awhile there I thought that there was no way baseball could survive once Ripken, Gwynn, Griffey, Jeter, etc. all retired. But I realized that baseball stops for no man, and almost every single day something happens that has never happened before in the sport. Like just the other day, for the first time ever, every home team won their game. 2011 ended with the most exciting day of baseball in the history of the sport, regardless of who you're a fan of. And if you missed it, you missed history. 2011's World Series was also amazing. In 2015 we're seeing some of the most talented baseball players to ever step on the field. Between Trout, Harper, Stanton, and Bryant, baseball has never been in better hands. I never thought I'd say that but it's true. If you're not watching now, you're missing out on what might turn out to be the best player to ever play the game (Trout)

Rivera Was a Man when he lost OR won. and unlike a great many other athletes, when he blew a save... There he was , mic's in his face, answering Questions. He left the mound the same way every time... With Class. He was what you hope ALL players would be like, all the time... But they rarely where, And he Always was.

When Miller hit the ball back up the middle, that's the most emotion I think I've ever seen out of Rivera on a baseball field. It only lasted for 0.3 seconds, but if you look quickly, you can see it.
