KZread has only ever gotten worse throughout my 13 years on the platform. I'm not even surprised when bullshit like ads on non-monetized videos start happening.

there are also other problems if you don't monetize videos- they don't get promoted or recommended anymore, so you basically have to be subscribed to the channel or search for the video to ever find it. This drastically lowers viewership.

Computer scientist here: Google bought youtube to train the AI for facial and voice recognition. The adds were always a grift. When you make a "bot" you have to train the bot. Google AI voice and facial recognition didn't just "appear" they used youtube to train it. I've been trying to explain this to people for years why you tube is free and how to train AI systems.

@@lucidmoses In all fairness, devs and coders kinda deserved some good payments to modernize the site and Google probably wasted billions managing KZread alone during its first few years so maybe ads wasn't that bad for a while. Nowadays, yeah....
You wouldn't know they were commonplace by watching other reviewers. They all still seem to be about endless MX variants in absurdly expensive weighted cases.
@oatmilk9918

While the variants of MX switches is absurd (the cost of heavy casea is usually but not always justified given materia, machining and finsihing costs), hall-effect switches are rapidly gaining popularity as more hall-effects PCBs become available. A lot of new boards are coming with HE PCBs now
Instant like for that fucking intro. Also, the reason we know you're the best in the biz is stuff like when you talked about the keyboard being a clone and that you reached out to find who the OEM is, lol. We love the realism/cynicism

I like Gamakay boards, for their cheap price they are surprisingly decent. I bought a 65% a couple of years ago, just because it was wired, 2.4G and Bluetooth capable between several devices (which was exactly what I needed at the time) and found that I ended up loving the board a tonne more than I thought I would.
Wow, I bought DrunkDeer A75 some time ago, when I could not find so many HE keyboards. Now there are so many more. But I am quite satisfied with mine and I even modified it a bit. I really enjoyed modifying the contactles HE switches, since I do not need to be afraid of bent pins and popped out hot-swap sockets.
Instant brownie points for that Casino bit in the intro 😂
At 2:48, Thomas says: "I very much would like for everyone to be able to use ... beam spring [switches]. Although hopefully in not too long we'll be one step closer to that." Does anyone know what Thomas is referring to?
@dundar888

I assume he's referring to the beam spring keyboard recreations by modelfkeyboards, they've already shipped IBM Model F recreations that were very accurate in terms of typing feel to the original model Fs.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know what beam springs switches are, and I know about the beam spring keyboards made by Model F Labs. However, those keyboards are *already* available, so that doesn't seem to fit with Thomas saying: "... hopefully in not too long we'll be one step closer to that." I was wondering if there are rumors or expectations that there soon will be MX compatible switches with beam-spring like tech inside, similar to how ZealPC's Clickiez switches (launched in 2022?) have Alps-like tech inside.
It's quite seriously annoying to see "Mercury" in the name of a contactless switch that (I assume!) doesn't actually use mercury. What contactless linear keyswitches are actually now available separately for use in DIY keyboards, if any? I for one would be very interested in a video on what the options are for DIY contactless linear boards in 2024.
I love you for the anti advertisement thing

I love your contempt of KZread ad policies. I've always used shit keyboards even though I have a degree in computer science and have been a gamer since before most people even heard of the term FPS. I've always had expensive gaming mice but gave up on keyboards a long time ago and just got used to the blister style. I finally got a K70 Max with the hall effect buttons and I can never go back to the old style buttons.

I mean, contactless linears are dime a dozen now, but I still haven't found any good dampened ones except for the razer. I did some small modifications to mine (filled the bottom with silicone, lubed the rattly parts and what could be described as a force break mod). It is now crazy silent, especially when placed on a desk mat. I type very lightly, but do bottom out sometimes. The occasional bottom out clack on other keyboards is irritating as hell.
I think AKKO is the oem for case and keycaps, looks similar to the akko mod 75

They're fully adjustable accusations per switch. You can make them operate like a normal switch @ 2mm travel distance or 0.2/0.1mm or a max of 4mm. I use the lowest activation for my WASD keys and lower on number and other action keys and leave my windows button on normal 2mm activation and so on.

Quite a thocky keyboard which is kind of a surprise. I found out that I don't like linear keyboards so probably not for me, although the silent option might be interesting. But sheesh, an adjustable hall effect keyboard for that price is a steal. A hacker could probably change the background picture of that software and make it look OK. I'd rather have Open Source software though, if just because you can then also use it in Linux etc. In that sense my UHK keyboard is spoiling me.
Thomas, are you a KZread partner? It's my understanding that ironically you have to enroll in the KZread partner program in order to turn off monetization. Else, just as you said, they will still advertise, but you won't see any revenue.
From using a ye olde Cherry MX Red board since 2015, I have been salivating on every HE keyboard even more so from seeing all the ones Thomas has tested. Maybe one day my keyboard will die so I can justify my almost impulsive purchase! XD
