Galina Ulanova coaching arms [3] - Maximova & Vasiliev

Three former Mariinsky/Kirov ballerinas coaching épaulement and arms. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, such things were actually taught ;)
[1] Alexandra Danilova coaching Leslie Browne
[2] Alla Shelest
[3] Galina Ulanova coaching Maximova and Vasiliev

What a treat to see the great Ulanova passing along her knowledge to a younger generation. I was lucky enough to see her dance Juliet, Giselle, Chopinanna, Dying Swan and two concert-piece pas de deuxs in 1959 in NYC. Never before or since have I seen such genius. It's impossible for me to describe what it was that set her work so apart from that of others, but she functioned on a level I have never to date seen in any other dancer; and I have been fortunate enough to see most of the famous ones over the last 60 years, several of them great, but none, IMO, having reached the transcendent levels of spirituality she reached.

I enjoyed these coaching excerpts very much, thank you! Funny how Maximova's chin movement is exactly on music @0.47 :) Is this the original music?

A slight change .. But have you seen the clip with Vasiliev teaching Eric Vu An? Asking him for epaulment?

that clip is the clear exemple of the fact that also a strong dancer like vu an in front to vladimir vasiliev behaved as a school kid .on that clip vasiliev only miming was a far more convincing ali than vu an that danced with all his strenght .and the secret was in the magnificent epaulement of volodia .his posture ,his regal epaulement ..vu an was like a kitten near to a lion.

in this case l will tell you that l was so lucky to have seen live on stage madame ulanova ,was 1981/2 or so it was here in italy in reggio emilia in the local theatre .she was on stage with the group of dancers of a work titled FRAGMENTS OF A BYOGRAPHY in a part of the performance was showed on stage a ballet lesson at the barre ,the teacher was ulanova ,at the barre among the others maximova and vasiliev ,her stage parsonality despite her age and despite she was rather tiny and thin was uncomparable ,was an amazing moment.
