@@jessmorri7194 I feel like the scene is handled too gently for it to be heartbreaking. I thought it was nice seeing him speak up for himself, the drow twins are completely understanding of his choice and iirc you only get kind dialogue options to respond to him. It's a nice chance to help him a little with his self-esteem, and the way he's (for some, for the first time) so openly shy is an endearing moment of vulnerability, even if the cause for it is sad. Basically, I find everything in the scene except his dysmorphia itself heartwarming

As an avid reader who is made fun of for "living in a library" (with many plants and two cats), I must say to Tim Downie: A good library HAS to consist of some books you actually haven't read yet. Adds to the depth of feelings your personal library gives you. Like tender chills, or a caressing touch when you pass by and your eye catches a glimpse of the book that is yet to be read. From the very beginning of act one I jumped to action as soon as I learned his affliction he gained, as soon as he started talking about a bunch of D&D lore that I grew up reading I became enamored by him. There was a point in the game where he fell in battle and I vocally screamed Gale. As soon as I brought him back the dialogue he had with my character actually led me to tears. On the one hand, I absolutely loathe him fawning over Mystra(and her Weave) and constantly reminding everyone around about it; on the other hand, I can't think of one scenario where I ever picked any other companion over him. I never swapped him out of the team on any occasion. He witnessed EVERY cutscene since he joined the group and I don't think I've ever felt regretful about it. The team, and Tim, struck a great character. Gale is a character that can be serious and lighthearted when things are getting too serious. And those are just the surface character traits. Just all around a great character.

When I first came across Gale in-game, I was immediately drawn to his voice. It sounded so familiar... then I realised, hey, it's that guy from Upstart Crow and Toast of London, two of the best sitcoms of recent decades! Or three of the best if you count that one episode of Peep Show he was in. And he was so good as Gale. I expected the romance scenes in the game to be silly and ribald, but the scene with Gale was just... profoundly beautiful and genuinely moving. Best scene in the game.

I did my first playthrough as Gale, and I was really sad that you don't actually get to hear him much as your main character. Because even the short phrases he drops in combat or as idle chat all felt very different in how they sounded and which mood they conveyed. Dooming the world to Absolut's power just to hear that one special line "In my name!" was worth it. So thank you, Tim, for fleshing him out and thank you for the interview!

@@torumup8298 I tried all of them, but if you get to play as him and decide to destroy the Absolute, you don't get to choose regarding the crown, Gale just reforges it without asking and gets teleported to Mystra. My personal choice is for him to return it and tell her they shouldn't see each other ever again. The sad part is that it is impossible to save Karlach with him as MC just because :/

tim is the only one that sounded almost the same as his character and the way he geeks about books and movie, all i can hear is just gale being a nerd, especially when i listen to this without the visual. im a grown adult and i CAN seperate the actor from the character but this one is so damn hard. all i hear is gale yapping and i find it very adorable😭

What a great interview! He's so funny and charismatic (and very similar to Gale I might add), it was great to learn about him and the fact that this is his first videogame experience. Tim's voice as Gale is so iconic, and I honestly don't know if I would've liked Gale as much if he didn't voice him. It's not just Tim's voice but the inflections, the energy, the humor, and the mannerisms during passionate and awkward moments, they were all so well done- I love my George Michael nerdy magic man :')

Sometimes i even forget this is just game because how alive all of your character seems to be. I am sorry that you had to do the Gale romance 4th times but this was worth it. Gale's lines are so beautifull and touching. I felt his feelings like he was really talking to me; his sorrow, his longing, everything you said. Thank you Tim for your hardwork. BG3 is a masterpiece and you all contribute to create that. I now want a BG4.

Didn't know real actor sounds close to Gale - he doesn't have to specifically modulate voice for him, he has that undertone already in his normal speech (see 10:57 , 14:20 , 21:14 , 25:46 complete with Gale's finger pointing too, 1:02:02 ). 30:38 - yay he loves the work ! 45:52 - as someone who remembers the games from the turn of 90's/2000s I am still to this day amazed to see a fully detailed building with 3D stone blocks, pillars, window frames, chiseled architectural details, or a cape that doesn't hang like a piece of cardboard behind a character 49:32 - you mean you don't walk into lakes of ice and fire daily ? 1:02:29 - damn, I was right to dye his robe blue. 1:05:54 - nooo ! Don't trash talk the nice man Downie ! Nor Gale ! Any of those two ! 1:10:30 - yay we are being thanked ! I always keep Gale in the party, unless it's 10th reload and I put in LaeZel with Karlach together just to slice everything into dices.

for anyone wondering what he means with "scarlett receiver" at 48:23. its an audio interface (focusrite scarlett 2i2/solo specifically), which plugs in via usb, and is basically an external soundcard which you can plugin instruments and microphones via 6.35mm jack and xlr for recording. it indeed is a golden ticket for any digital audio work in the sense that it is mandatory for entry, not in the sense of rarity tho. cant really imagine those things being rare at anytime, even with the transistor crisis.

just like to say i really love your style of interviews. actually having a proper conversation with your guests, finding bits of casual information not relating to their work really helps the interview feel less formal and more natural! you can tell that both you and your guest (in this case, Tim) feel more comfortable around each other as the interview progresses, it's great :D So many interviewers end up only reading off pre planned questions about the actor's work/role which makes it come across as super formulaic, so thank you!
