    Just to clarify a few things, how fast an app is opening, is not the way to test overall performance, since it has nothing to do with the actual cpu or the gpu, it just shows how fast the NAND flash memory in the eMMC (embedded multi-media card) actually is, so basically the storage memory. If you want to measure cpu performance, it's best to just do cpu intensive tasks, like multitasking for example, but i don't know if the iphone can do multitasking, that's why in my opinion the a16 is wasted in the iphone, it simply does not need that much power for what it can actually do. It can of course affect performance in games, but most intensive smartphones games are more gpu bound, and since the s23 Ultra has a stronger gpu, you can expect slightly better framerates, and also better 1% and 0.1% lows, so that means it will stutter less.

  • @nickackermanchannel

    @nickackermanchannel

    Thanks for sharing your take, of course, we could much more intensive tests, but day to day I don't run my phone that intensively so I cover what I actually do on the phone like open apps, play a quick game, open the camera, use biometrics, etc.

    @@nickackermanchannel I understand that. Most users are not power users, i just wanted to clarify that how fast an app opens, doesn't say much about actual performance, since loading an app is not a cpu task

    @@carlosferreira4225 I specifically used the words "you can expect" What i said is very true. It literally depends on the game, and if it's cpu bound, or gpu bound, there are many benchmarks showing games running smoother on the Galaxy. One of the most gpu intensive benchmarks out there, 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited, shows the galaxy outperform the Iphone by about 5fps, with a score of around 13k to 8k. It literally depends on the game.

    But if you want to clarify things you should also clarify the more important things like opening apps are not the most accurate comparison. Like the iPhone 14 is actually one generation behind the S23. Or when the Note 20 released with the iPhone 12, you only compared that with the already one year old iPhone 11? Because between iPhone 14 and iPhone 12 there are no 3 generations like between S23U (renamed Note 23) and Note 20. The relocation on timeline/rename of the Note was just a marketing trick to fool the sheeps, who can't remember and can't count, but the past did not changed (just keep in mind that the 12 and 20 are both odd numbers, if you add +1 for them in each year, they will turn to even number in the same year, and back to odd number in the next year also together, so if you compare any even series with odd series, you are doing something wrong, they are not the same generations)

    @nickackermanchannel I've only had it a week, but it feels like all phones should fold in half. I use the small screen to control media, set timers, as my alarm clock, etc. I'm closer to your height than your wife, but if you get one let her try it. Folded it fits in women's pockets easier. I don't like to wear watches so I keep it on me for step tracking. battery life wasn't great at 1st, but I got a msg about Samsung putting unused apps to sleep and it's gotten much better than my last phone, Pixel 6a. If you think it will help the channel get one. If not I think it's basically an S23 that folds.

    If you’re use to using a Galaxy phone, the vibrance is usually turned up, so it makes colors pop which looks nice but not realistic especially in photos. iPhones have True Tones which doesn’t have the vibrant colors but it is much more realistic which the human sees.

Some of these updates sometimes come with bugs, and I'm unsure if Nick is on the August update, which is also supposed to bring performance improvements like in the One UI 6 Beta 2. @@Moyaiville_Productions well, he’s not in iOS 17 beta either. That does bring performance improvements, even in benchmarks (7%). iPhone’s performance seems consistent, in fact better than before (as updates comes). But in Android side, as new updates come, (sometimes) performance dips by small percentage. Take S22U for example.

    I want to say, about the ram, it's possible the s23 is unloading data from the apps after a few switches, so going back in is a bit slower, which is actually more efficient vs the iPhone keeping that data wholly loaded into ram for the fast returns.. the iPhone gives up performance in order to look faster, it's a facade. you're going to be able to have way more apps loaded into ram while maintaining fast launches and app returns on the s23 vs the iPhone. the 1 second delay on the s23 maybe slower but is significantly more efficient for multitasking with heavy app switches. as for the camera, the s23 is miles ahead of the iPhone in quality & features while loading milliseconds slower, it seems this is an unfair comparison, anyways, as the s23 is basically building a mansion in the same amount of time the iPhone is building a hut when launching the camera.
