Had my first ever go on Galactica last weekend. Thought the ride's theming and personality was much better as Galactica, but I'm not sure what to think about the VR really.

All rows have VR, but you can ask to have no VR on any of the rows. It is exactly the same as Air with no VR, if not better due to the theming!

We went on it the day it opened as well and it was amazing! loved it, not restrictive at all, open your mind and its immense and totally immersing, loved it!

Had a selfie with this guy at the gates today before park opened as he works there. Cool! and good vlog.

Ok, this is a message for all people who think VR has ruined air! So I went to Alton towers today and I went on galactica, I took a ride with the VR on and it was amazing! Then I went on again in the front row and even staff who work on galactica recommended you don't use VR on the front row and they ask you if you want to use VR or not! I think it is better with no VR but even without it, it is better than air (aesthetic wise) because they have the brand new amazing portal and a way better logo, merch shop and a unique restaurant! So air is not ruined if you have experienced the new ride! If you still disagree It's your own opinion!

I can't wait to go and ride this just to experience it. The theming and the soundtrack is amazing!!

I rode Galactica for the first time today and it was great, for me it really improved on air. It was extremely immersive and the soundtrack was great, I would give it a 9/10

I got stuck on the brake run for this for half an hour on sunday! it hurt my neck alot

Last time I went up the extension queue was in 2013, queue was about 2 hours long, and oblivion was from the queue entrance on reduced capacity, busiest day I've ever had at Alton!

I went to Alton towers yesterday I went on galactica I thought it was amazing 😁

I do feel like they could've used their first year after a new Coaster (Wickerman) in 2019 to repaint the Galactica track into a dark Blue and grey supports so it relates more strongly to the branding

I prefer air, but I am happy I got to try out the vr glasses for the first time and I brought the immerse glasses from the galactic shop, also I saw you there

I wish it was still air because * with headsets you can't see the scenery * it can make some people sick or feel ill * the theme music isn't as good * you can't wave to the people on the lift hill * you can't have on ride photos (wish I'd have got one) It's just not the same 😔

I really love the VR, I don't think I would've ridden Air alone because of the near misses (I'm a bit uneasy with coasters). I do wish they could somehow have a separate loading station but obviously it's just not doable. I did despise it in 2016 when I first rode, it was mad disorientating and badly done, however riding in 2018 with some improvements I really enjoyed it, and the fire part was quite impressive despite making 0 sense haha

I have been on Galactica 5 times already it's my favourite ride ever

i love the theming rip the head sets

We went yesterday and saw you working! The overall package of Galactica,as you said, is brilliant, however I think the virtual reality kind of takes over the adrenalin of the rollercoaster itself, I believe that it will work for them but there are better rides at the park.

I love the sounds of the portals powering up/down. As for the syncing, it is weird as I imagine each train, and even each person has a separate feed... Could this be affected ever so slightly by weight/wind/rain though?

on the fire bit, they should of actually have real fire burst near the rolercoaster do you hear and feel it(heat not the flames obvs)

hey up dude saw you tonight as I was leaving alton towers asked if you was the you tube guy. gonna try this with headset tomoz after going on without coz it was dark keep up the cool reviews 😉

I am actually hoping that some other rides get given optional VR. They would have to make the path you are doing more clear when in the VR so you know when you are about to drop but it would be cool to have 2 or 3 different themes for each ride. You could change the theme each time to have re-ride value. I didn't really love galactica but it was still very cool. The smiler could have really cool VR made for it.

Believe it or not, Air wasn't the first modern flying coaster. It was actually Stealth at California's Great America, now known as Nighthawk at Carowinds, which is built by Vekoma. Air, now Galactica, is the first B&M flyer though.

+Theme Park Worldwide Thanks Shawn for the balanced review! I also think that if I want to ride a coaster, then no headset is necessary. One issue that they will never overcome is synchronization of video and real world experience. Even on completely virtual reality rides, just a millisecond of out of synch problems will cause discomfort for the riders. Being that every coaster ride is different, how will they ever perfect this issue?? Once the newness has passed, I think this whole thing may start falling apart. Keep up the great work!
