Gaffer & Gear 66 - Exalux Control One

Gaffer & Gear 66 - Exalux Control One
In this episode we run through the Exalux Control One Lumin Radio DMX controller.
This unit can run 40 fixtures, save scenes, do transitions between scenes and can be used as a lumen radio transmitter for a DMX desk.
Available in Australia trough “Technical Art Solutions”
Tecart.com.au
NOTE: At the time i shot this i was unaware that at ART-NODE should ideally be 50cm away from the Exalux transmitter to avoid interference.

Just stumbled onto this. Amazing. DMX is mandarin to me and you’ve shown how this device might be something I can wrap my old brain around. Thanks again.

Hi Andrew, I just asked you to make a video on DMX 512 & Lumen Radio, but I think this episode sufficently covers the topics. DMX 512 wired or wireless is just to expensive and complicated for me. I am not a Pro; I am more of a self funded, Passion Film Maker, and a smart phone app fits my budget and means better. Thanks for all your hard work! Mathew

I'm curious. This looks great to take out on location where I'm only have 10-15 lights to control. When I am on stage, could I hook this up to my main console and use it just as just a lumen radio transmitter? I need to buy another lumen radio transmitter, but if I could do this, it would make the 2500 dollars more palatable. Thanks for all the great reviews BTW.

Yep, I had this problem, I had to pull the lights out and read my solution I have written on tape on the side of the light. I have the light set to profile 3. I set the exalux up using two profiles back to back. 1) Aputure Nova P300c (Mode 3) 2) generic 2 Chanel's. The generic 2 channel can operate the strobe, but also blocks the next light you enter in from setting off the strobe. The Nova profile will run the rest, just have the G/M set to zero for off. Have the saturation set to 100% and use the CCT/HSI slider to desaturate.

Mr. Lock, how is the Exalux holding up? Is the latest firmware updated to accept new fixtures such as Vortex & Nova's? How about b7c and Nyx bulbs? Thinking about getting one of these for basic control

How to hard reset the security pin? Someone was playing with my controller and set a new pin code. Now I'm stuck after entering the player function - can't return to menu not knowing the pin. Do you have any hints on how to deal with this?

I have never been brave enough to venture into the security pin area. I will e-mail the software engineers when I home and see if they have a solution

Great video! very informative. I have a question, could you have some fixtures selected out of your entire setup and do changes on them all at once or you have to do it one by one ? lets say i am in a studio situation and i have 8 skypanels on the backdrop and i want to make some changes on them without altering my other lights.

I was in touch with their software engineer for this video asking about things I didn't like. This was one of them. They are working on grouping lights at the moment, hopefully in the near future it will be in a firmware update. They are a bit pushed due to processing limitations so 50/50 chance.

Im now a beta tester for them, so I have just tested the next firmware. You can group lights so long as they are the same fixtures in the same profile

@@gaffergear Does the group function rely on naming them the same - or is there another way of grouping fixtures - so far very happy with Control One
